145 Do advertisements promote things we do not need or products that may improve our lives?
Recently, the rise of affection of advertisement in our daily lives has aroused public attention and understandably so. Hardly, anyone can be getting rid of the media images, which appeared in avenue, skyscraper, and elevator. As far as I’m concerned, the fact is more reasonable that advertisements more often than not convince us to purchase things that we do not need.
It is usually complicated to distinguish whether a product from an advertisement or not. The pray of promotion producers, in the long run, lies on our basal emotions and powerful affiliations between our primary drives and their product names. Perfume ads are commonly quoted as a familiar example of the phenomenon mentioned above. Generally, there are some women, in the outstanding position, dressed in beautiful clothes and put themselves into a specific posture, while no word for commodity sale comes into our sight. Isn’t it strange? NO. It seems that we pay our attention to the amusing portraits, but indeed we cannot find the hidden idea the ad expressed deeply, that is every woman should be attractive and without perfume you will never up to the grade yet.
What’s more, in order to manipulative, ads also take our advantage of our environment and awareness to cheat us. The more media you keep contact with, the more ads information you take delivery of. When walking in the street, turning on the television, listening to the radio, even checking out your email, your eyes are filled with all kinds of ads as far as you can see, like the air surrounding you on earth. As a case in point, we may take a popular fashion magazine into consideration. Buying a fancy magazine with a low prize looks like a wonderful thing. Imagine you enjoy the content while flipping the pages, but unfortunately at that time you find out a commercial advertisement. One will most probably find that there are at least twice more advertisement pages than normal page content. Clearly, it turned out to be a painful reading process.
Last but not least, not only ads provide us insecurity, but it also conveys the belief that we have no value to the world without their possessions. The valuable in products should be made our life better; however, ads help them to make the life worse. It is marked that ads “help” us unsatisfied with the life we lived now and attack our self-esteem, especially give a bad influence on teenagers.
As we all know, that’s only part of the explanation of disadvantage reasons of ads. I insist that the main goal of advertisements is to persuade us to buy things that we do not need. As globalization continues to shrink the world, there will inevitably be a possibility that advertising compels gradually all over the world to become consumer nations in the future. |
