TOPIC: ISSUE5 - "A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer."

Although the nationwide same curriculum would somewhat ignore individuals' weakness and advantages, same courses can not only result in teaching efficiency and economic for schools and society, but also be beneficial to students, who could choose his or her major rationally.
Admittedly, the ignorance of individual differences is obviously presented in the nationwide curriculum. Students, no matter how old are they and where they live, tend to have their own likes and dislikes in certain subjects. Some may find mathematics and science amazing by solving practical problems; some might hate history and politics for their boring theories and concepts. If teachers could properly adopts scientific methods for students, possibly, those who show little interest would change their mind. However, most instructors fail to do that because the standard education that they are required to need more teaching knowledge than meet everyone’s need. When it comes to developing some kids’ significant talents, they could be taught specifically through other ways, while other ordinary students could learn what they are supposed to learn.
On the other hand, a curriculum that can be used among the whole nation would save a myriad of energy and time and perform efficiently for educators. Because teachers can instruct various students with same courses within a long period, the system provides more time for them to develop their own understanding of the subject and teaching methodology, rather than rushing to make several plans of teaching different ones. Also, it would be easier for teachers to discuss about their difficulties and confusions in the teaching process with peer all around the country, thus learning from each other and improving the quality of education. Thereby, teaching could be more timesaving and easy to communicate on the basis of a national wide same curriculum system.
Similarly, modern society benefit from the same curriculum system, as same measurements and facilities can be used. Relying on same curriculum, an effective national education evaluation system would present a scientific view of students and teachers within the whole nation, leading college enrollments and school hiring fairer and more reasonable. In addition, schools which are short of equipments could get standard equipments from the government and organizations. Some second-handed facilities from other schools are also expected to pass down to them. With a scientific evaluation of teachers and students, and well supported facilities, can society improve its comprehensive quality of education.
Finally, students also get a broader view of the world and therefore choose their majors in college more wisely. Since one need to learn from physics to politics, from painting to physical education, it becomes easier for one to find what he or she is really fond of, while learning some other subjects, which they are not good at, can be avoided. In comparison to those who choose one major relatd with the limited subjects that one learn, students who learn all subjects in the national wide curriculum system would have more choices and knowledge of what they can do and what they like to do. Clearly, a comprehensive view of disciplines provided by the system, stimulates students to determine one of their biggest decisions scientifically and rationally.
In a word, although it may not work for some genius students, the same national curriculum would help promote efficiency in instructing, as well as evaluation system and education facilities. Further, ordinary students could learn what they should learn and help them decide what major is suitable for them.
I wanted to write 4 respects: bad influence, teachers, society, and students. However, it turns out that I do not have that much time to finish 4 body paragraghes. I would finish it tomorrow, after classes, I guess.
OK, here I've finished it! Hope that I have expressed my opinion clearly... |
