In utilitarianism theory, the ultimate goal for any organization is to pursuit the greatest good for the greatest number. In the case of education which always been category into"good", it is always nation's responsibility to carry out an efficient way to let the greatest number enjoy this good. Deep down in my heart, I do believe the ideal model for education system should be individualized, let anyone learn what they like and do what they enjoy, no doubt this way will provide the greatest happiness to each individual, and combine that together will bring the greatest joy to the whole society.

However, no matter how fancy the ideal patten is, it is only existed in our fancy dream, the reality is tough and complicated, due to some limitation, the gap between the reality and ideal can never be filled up. We always need to balance the trade off between the efficiency and utility. No matter how powerful and developed the nation is, she could not afford to an one hundred percent individualized education system, the same national curriculum is necessity in every country on some level. The reasons for this phenomenon are not hard to understand.

First of all, the standard curriculum is the easiest way for a country to provide equal education right. No matter we hate it or not, the efficiency of centralization is obvious. Chaos is often caused by argument between different pinions . Compare to diverse opinions, one voice is more easy to be heard and followed. With standard curriculum, the related law and regulation will be normalized as well. In China, the nine years compulsory education is both obligation and right to each citizen, with standard laws and ignore the difference, the country can easily implement her education strategy to every corner. And for each citizen, no matter where they are, they can refer the same rule to protect individual right. In this case, the standard curriculum can pave the relative equal way to social welfare.

Second, admittedly that the diversity and individualized is ultimate goal to pursuit, but how could we know the preference of each member? Without more or less self-preception, even ourselves can not tell what we really like. So it is a little unreasonable to let a nation to figure out what's her each citizen wants to learn. After all, the government is combined by human not superman. One of the major function of education is to let people know themselves. Without literature courses, how could one gain the ability to read and write. Such as Francis Bacon says "Histories make men wise; poems witty; the mathematics subtle; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend." Thus, the fundamental coursed like history, math, logic, literature are crucial. The same curriculum can make sure each individual gain these basic function.

Third, for the most of the countries nowadays, college is the threshold of education system. Why the college education plays such significant role ? The answer is only one word: time. For each individual, education is a life long project, and the most important part of it is campus education. College is the last campus in one's life. In common view, kindergarten is for baby, elementary school is for children, Junior and high school is for teenager, college is for adult . Which means, when we get into college, we are grow enough to know what we like and we are mature enough to handle the diversity and chaos. So the education suddenly turns into an personal issue which does not related to nation's responsibility. But at the time before college, we are all children who need guide by nation's will. With standard education, each countries establish standard examination to select right people for the right position. The example is quite easy to find like SAT, college entrance examination, A-level and so on. In order to help student to pass this standard exam, the school should follow the same curriculum designed by nation wide before collage.

Even though , the above three all show the necessity of standard curriculum's before collage, it does not mean the same curriculum is the only and the best way for primary education. By civil development, human being turns to be more wisdom than before. Recently a phenomenon called "higher education in young age " has caught a lot of attention. The primary education is normalized and boring which can not satisfy the need of young student, so a lot of Junior and high school student begin to choose courses in university. And a lot of teenager just drop of school cause they find nothing interesting in test book. So every time when talks about education reform, the diversity of course will always on the table. The diversity and individualized is the trend for development of education, but can we afford to provide such diverse courses and can each member be satisfied equally ? All these are worth to consider.

In the end, as human being , we always dream for the best and work toward that. Tully that, in nowadays, due to some limitation, the same curriculum before collage is necessary and individualized is unpractical, the standard primary education do have its merits. But, as time goes by and civil develop, one day, each one can enjoy and be enlighten by an unique pattern of education which is perfect for him or herself.
