TOPIC: ISSUE9 - "Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use."

The author asserts that the expanding of touching area of population contributes to the understanding and popularizing  of those knowledge containing in their ideas. It seems plausible for the sake of some negative aspects brought by the limits of losing contact with mass. While, in my opinion, whether it is surely auxiliary to facilitate the communication of those ideas depends on many factors and the situations people involved in.
Admittedly, there is no denial that the more people touch those ideas created by the scholars , the more influence of these ideas can be obtained. For example, in the end of the World War 2, the atom bomb scarcely was known by public since the obsecurity of that expertise. While after the Albert Einstein, the most famous physician, presented the plan about tapping the resources of the nuclear technology to the US president Roosevelt, the public began to hear and recognize those innovative notions and scientific terms, and had access to geting a outline of the benefit that bomb could bring regarding to end the  terrible war. In other areas, such as the advent of the Internet era, also drives on the same way --- when it was named "Aparnet" in the labortory of the US Defending department, nobody could image that this outlandish things could change the human society so profoundly. When it has come to every one 's daily life in this modern society, no one can deny its significance in contributing the information communication between  peoples in different areas. Here, we can see the power that when a technology or the scholar's vanguarding ideals is confined in a narrow groups, especially the academic group itself, it may lose the animation; when the mass touch it, it is more vivid and starts to burgeon.
However, merely overstate the importance of keeping a wide connection with the mass may veil the essence of the scholar's academic duties. What is the most underlying duty our scholar shoulder?  Discovering  the truth in our universe,  probing the nature of our society, trying to procure answers towards our human beings destiny (which is called "ultimate concern"),  and so forth. if an expert engaging himself/herself in the mundane affairs about publicity, such as being anxiety to publish the academic results, being infatuated in winning Nobel Prize or some other fames , then we can image that his/her researching would be often interrupted. In a word,  the scholars do not equals to the celebrities which seems ridiculous against their academic profession backgrounds.
Last but not least, acadamic disiplines specialization does have its merits. What a primary school student most likely to learn quickly when he/she confronts two courses structure: one constitues of various diciplines, such as literature, arts, biology, chemistry and so on; the other is just one course, such as math. From the view of pedagogy, we have confidence to assert that the latter form do more good than harm to the pupils considering their capacity at that ages. Thus , specialization is feasible to education of the students, especially neophytes.
In summarize, the statement that specialiation leads to a narrow range of the scholar's communication is worthy revised. What factually make their konwledge or ideas useful to the population and the human society is not the  numbers extent of the mass they reach, but the situatuions they and their ideas are involved in and what the society really need.
