WORDS: 422 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 2010/3/26 22:19:17\
With a wide range of media coverage nowadays, any man or woman who once would be regarded as a hero are no longer glorified. They are monitored everywhere anytime, and therefore scandals and rumors of them are flying everywhere. IN short, mostly, celebrities are publicized to be not a hero by massive media.
To begin with, there is no denying that scandals and rumors, rather than contributions of celebrities draw more attention of the common people by providing them comfortableness and pleasure. As is known to all, no one is perfect. Even those who are the best in their fields and always present the fabulous to the public would have their own weakness and drawbacks. When ordinary people see their disadvantages once, they may not feel comfort about the fact that they are no especially better than themselves, and no longer feel the gap between the masses and heroes. Michael Jackson, for example, a famous singer, was more than popular before he was accused of having an improper relationship with a boy. After the scandal, no matter whether it was true or not, a large amount of people do not admire him as before, although they might still listen to his popular songs. Media coverage somehow helps people find a balance between a hero and an ordinary person, comforting them with the feeling that celebrities are not that wonderful at first glance.
Based on people's interests about celebrities' weakness, media coverage dig into almost every famous people's lives, presenting how they live their lives. It is not rare to be informed about what the models dress when they go shopping one day, what our president's pet looks like, and how much a famous soccer star own in a week. To reach out to the life of stars, politicians and businessmen, journalists take every measure to probe the sample of so-called heroes' life, to stock their tracks and to record their behaviors. In the end, famous people are no more supermen under the spotlights. As it turns out, they also like going shopping, although considerably money consuming; they are also fond of spending time with families, chatting about rumors like others; they also cannot get straight As when they went to school. Indeed, famous people are ordinary when they live their lives, found by massive coverage.
To conclude, it is the common interest that the common people like to observe heroes' life, to find their weakness, and to comfort them. And that is what mass media looking for-to draw attentions of the public. They make full use of this, and spot heroes' lives everywhere, at any time.
