7.The following appeared in a letter to the editor of the Clearview
newspaper.

"In the next mayoral election, residents of Clearview should vote for Ann
Green, who is a member of the Good Earth Coalition, rather than for Frank
Braun, a member of the Clearview town council, because the current members
are not protecting our environment. For example, during the past year the
number of factories in Clearview has doubled, air pollution levels have
increased, and the local hospital has treated 25 percent more patients
with respiratory呼吸道 illnesses. If we elect Ann Green, the environmental
problems in Clearview will certainly be solved."


The arguer claims that if the residents of Clearview elect Ann Green to be the next mayor ,the environmental problems will certainly solved .To support the augument ,the arguer lists some evidences that Ann Green is a member of Good Earth Colition.And during the past year ,the number of factories has doubled and the more respiratory illnesses have existed.The argument is fraught with some flaws .



In the first place ,to elect Ann to be the next mayor doesn’t indicate that Clearview environment will be impoved .Ann is the member of Good Earth Colition ,which can not hold the saying that he is also interested in environment protecting or good at protecting it .Moreover ,he may be just a ordinary crew of the colition ,and not the expert of environment .
Admittedly ,he
really cares more about environment than other electors ,which couldn’t mean he would still care environment when he votes to be the next mayor.After all ,being a mayor ,the responsibility is not only the environmental problems,but also economic development and medical problems.who knows what is the focus for him ,when he succeeds?


In the second place ,although the number of factories in Clearview has doubled in the past year,that doesn’t indicate the air pollution resulted from the factories .The arguer has not enumerated any information about what the products of those factories.In other word ,if the factorties just produce clothing and socks,that impossible generates air pollution,which might be from cars or human activity.


In the third place ,even if the number of respiring illnesses has increased during the time of air pollution ,that would not show that air pollution is main factor of respiring illnesses .Maybe the patients have existed ,but they don’t see the doctor timely ,and then go to see the doctor during the time of
air pollution .The arguer should give us some data and results of interviewing those patients.


In sum ,to strengthen the conclusion ,the argue should give us more information about Ann’s ability of managing a city and planes ,moreover the accurate data and information of factories’ situation ,and patients’ physical conditions.
