The passage above presents a letter of the Clearview newspaperto the editor, which illustrated that the citizen should vote for Ann Green, amember of the Good Earth Coalition instead of Frank Braun, a member of theClearview town council. The reason why they suggest this is they supposed thatcurrent members are not protecting their living conditions. As for me, I canfully understand the eagerness to make the living environment more comfortable.But I do not completely the suggestion arguer makes.

First of all,Clearview is now recruiting the mayor of the city rather than the environmentprotector. We could not simply judge the working accomplishment only by the environmentprotection of the city. Accordingly there should be rounded judgment standardto decide the working level of mayor such as GDP increasing rate, cityfoundation structure construction, health care system and so on. When thecitizens are considering voting for mayor, the points listed above should beconsidered comprehensively and rounded. The passage said that the environmentof the city may not be satisfied by the citizen, and suggest not to vote forthe council member accordingly. I believe it is too arbitrate since manybyproducts are bought to the city with the prosperous industries. This in turnstimulated the economy of the city, which leads to the upgrade of livingconditions of the citizens.

Secondly, there areno evidence shows the increased air pollutions are caused by these newly openedfactories. We all know that the heavy industry will bring about the environmentpollution, however, we do not know the character of industry of Clearview.Maybe the city has some kinds of light factories such as package maker and softdrinking manufaturer and even some dealing with water refinery, these factoriesdo little pollution to the local environment, some of them might help todecrease the pollution, like water refinery. We should also take into accountthe probability that Clearview is not an isolated city, which is invulnerableto pollutions carried by winds and rivers from nearby cities. To solve thisproblem it needs more complex legistration and negotiations, which are likelyto beyond the capability of a pure environment protector.

Meanwhile, I thinkthe respiratory illness may be caused by other reasons like viruses. The arguerfailed to give the precise statistical data on the percentages of causescontributing to increase in respiratory illnesses. And there even might bepossible that the increasing in local hospital’s record may be ascribed to theincreasing of care of their health.

Of course I shouldpoint out that FB needs to improve a lot to meet the requirement of citizens inhaving a better living conditions of their own if he is to be a good mayor whoshould be able to achieve a balance between developing and environmentprotecting. While AG, on the other hand, may find his place in the council todevote himself to the environment protection.
