Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.

When it comes to the question what is an truly effective education, different people might have differing opinions. In my observation, there are three primary purposes of education--meeting the needs of individual, in accordance with interests of individuals and serving society respectively. Only when achieving all of these three
aspects, an education comes into being.

First, it is definitely true that education should meet the needs of individual. Through education most individuals dreams about a good job and a better future. As an old saying goes that everyone is equal in-born. It is unfortunate but true that we are not equal in reality, taking family, parents, and nationalism into consideration. Few will disagree that children born in a rich family are better able to have a rich childhood and a wealthy future that those born in poor family, not to mention those worrying about starving everyday. Children in America feel more sense of security than those in Irac. Thus to most children, education is the only way by which they dare to hope a beautiful future, therefore changing they family's destination. Even those having a better family also need education to sustain their happy life. Only does education have the power to make the inequality to be equal.

Not only is education is responsible to cultivate students who could make a brilliant future, but also to make a better society. To a nation, only those who can work harder in order to make a better life for themselves are not enough, we also need those who are actively engaged in research, which leads the advancement of society and  the development of science and technology. There are a great amount of historical examples to justify this claim. For example, being engaged in improving the rights of African American, Martin Luther King dedicated his whole life to fight against the discrimination. Moreover, with the development of society and advancement of science, our ordinary peole are able to have the opportunity to find a job and achieve our dream of a better life.

With respect to the third aspect--in accordance with interests of each student, it is absolutely wrong to think that it has less priority than the above two in the first face.  As an ancient Greek philosopher said that the root of education is bitter. Facing boring and repeative study, how can one survive in this kind of life without interests? Interests is the first driven power in every filed.In this modern society, being aware of the severity of dull and boring study, we are placing  more and more emphysis on the interest-driven education. With interest, we are glad to learn the knowledge which was compulsory tast in the past. More importantly, some students find their true interests which is worthy being pursued through their whole life. It is entirely possible that those driven by their interests make a great contribution to our society.

To sum up, the basic purposes of education is to meet the needs of individuals and society, which might not only help individuals create a better future, but also create a better society. The key determent to cultivate more useful students is meeting the interests of each students. Only by establishing a balance among these three elements, education can be effective for the society and its future.
