9"Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use."
Nowadays, there increasingly arise much concern about the issue whether scholars should reach a wider audience. As the assertion presented by the speaker, some people claim that because the specialized idea has little use, a wider audience is needed. Anyway, it is undeniable that a wide view is a significant element in the development of science. However, the existence of specialization should not be neglected, which plays an indispensable role in our society.

To begin with, with the rapid accumulation of knowledge, it is impossible for anyone to follow the example of Aristotle, who was believed to know everything at his time. Let's take chemistry for a specific example. With the development of experimental technology and human intellect, people had made numerous discoveries in chemical field, which led to the emergence of various branches of chemistry such as inorganic chemistry, analysis chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, and biochemistry. And each of these disciplines, which respectively has its own complex concepts and theories, has developed into a complete science. Certainly, any scientist could not master everything about all these branches of chemistry. Accordingly, it is reasonable for a scientist to focus on certain field.

On the second place, our society needs various specialists to maintain the function of society to continue, such as lawyer, doctor, teacher, and engineer. And it makes no difference in science. Namely, we require physicists, mathematicians, chemists, geographer, biologist, and computer man to make progressive strides in every field. Without these specialists, we will find ourselves trapped in the sea of information overload, and many great scientific achievements would not occur. For instance, without theoretical physicist, the theory of relativity and the theory of quantum would not

In the third analysis, over-emphasis on the specialization will impede the communication between different disciplines, which will undermine the development of science directly and indirectly. The interconnection of various disciplines is beneficial for the development of science and solving social problems. The nuclear power plant is a case in the point. To build a nuclear power plant, architect, theoretical physicist, mathematician, and chemist are required to work together. In addition, the technology of Cloning is another example, which came from the cooperation between biology and chemistry. Furthermore, when it comes to some social problems, such as deforestation, Greenhouse effect, and AIDS (Acquired Immure Deficiency Syndrome), academic specialists alone are not sufficient to solve these problems. Actually, sociologists and behaviorist should be involved to solve these problems.
In sum, as is discussed above, it is safe to say that specialization is needed, for the exploration of information and the accumulation of knowledge. Simultaneously, it is necessary to employ specialists, which are indispensable. Moreover, the interconnection should not be prevented by over-emphasis on specialists.

To begin with, with the rapid accumulation of knowledge既然你在下文提到各个单门学科知识范围的不断扩充,广义的摄取知识已成为不可能的事实,那么你在这里的knowledge 就应该指明是specific knowledge 而不是没有任何附加说明的广义的knowledge, it is impossible for anyone to follow the example of Aristotle, who was believed to know everything at his time. Let's take chemistry for a specific example. With the development of experimental technology and human intellect, people had made numerous discoveries in chemical field, which led to the emergence of various branches of chemistry such as inorganic chemistry, analysis chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, and biochemistry可否不要那么多chemistry的重复? And each of these disciplines, which respectively has its own complex concepts and theories, has developed into a complete science. Certainly, any scientist could not master everything about all these branches of chemistry. Accordingly, it is reasonable for a scientist to focus on certain field.

On the second place(是hand,不是place), our society needs various specialists to maintain the function of society to continue, such as lawyer, doctor, teacher, and engineer. And it makes no difference in science. Namely, we require physicists, mathematicians, chemists, geographer, biologist, and computer man to make progressive strides in every field. Without these specialists, we will find ourselves trapped in the sea of information overload(overloaded), and many great scientific achievements would not occur. For instance, without theoretical physicist, the theory of relativity and the theory of quantum would not (没写完!!!)
