ISSUE194 - "The best preparation for life or a career is not learning to be competitive, but learning to be cooperative."
In nowdays highly competitive social cicurcumstances, the best preparation for life or a career is learning to be competitive when chances visit, and to be cooperative when team work requires.
There is a saying that opportunities only left for those who are always prepared. Because only the prepared can sense chances pass by and identify the best point to seize goods. Being prepared means you have to arm yourself with certain knowledge or skills so that you can advance others. During the process, there must be competition. As the sources are limited, only those who acquire superior skills and knowledge will win the game. This has been verified in our nature and theorized by Darwin as the "jungle rule": tigers have a better chance to survive than rabbits because they are more competitive to hunt foods in wild. This theory can also apply in human society, a more competitive individual have the spirit to fight for every chance and acquire more skills to encounter various situations thus who earn a larger ratio to success than those less competitive.
However, only being competitive will lead individules end up in isolation and lose connections with others which can jeopardize his/her chances to survive further. Human society is consisit of millions of individuls, who have certain connections with each other, i.e., family members, collegues, classmates, friends and even competitors. Our society won't develope if there's no bond among each individuls, because power of each individul is limited, but together it could have a larger play. One simple example is that most people today find a job through their networking. If one look for a job through classified newspaper or online job sites, s/he can get certain limited information from his/her viewpoint; but, if one release the news that s/he is looking for a job to several friends, and all the friends help her/him on job hunting, the information s/he can get will be multiple just because the information resouces enlarged many times.
Even when a job is find, cooperation with your teammates is the key to secure your further caree development. Be cooperative with your collegues is a simple interpretation for team working spirit, which is so important in working because it's obvious that each of us has a limited ability. The assignments could be complex and time-consuming sometimes, if each team player can take care of some parts of the whole task, it certainly will save a lot time and energy. That's why when a surgery is going on, not only docotors need to be on site but also nurses. Doctors need to focus on performing operation and they might not be able to take care of other things, such as observing blood pressure or electrocardiograph, not mention picking up various operation untensils. Therefore, nurses there can help on these things and let docotors concentrate on operations performance. They are all necessary for a operation, missing anyone will only fail the operation.
In sum, learning to be competitive and cooperative are both important for one to survive and develope in our society, as cometition will help you to get better opportunity and cooperation will let you to secure the chances with the help from others.
