6. It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

People are always talking about the purpose of education, and the conclusions often more concentrate on filling empty mind with knowledge, shaping personality of people, and cultivating   the ability of problem-solving, but people seems to ignore another purpose of education--to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

It is widely known that education begins with children and usually concentrates on the period of the first twenty years of a person's whole life span. Undoubtedly, children's minds are the easiest to change and influence by the environment they live and study, for the ideas and knowledge in the children's brains are so limited that they are unable to analyze some problems and often feel confused about the world, under this circumstances, the idea from the outside give them answers, object or subject, influence them deeply.

Living in family, some of children's ideas is formed by their family members, and similarly, studying at school, what teachers instruct, what textbooks print, and what activities influence flush into the children's minds everyday, therefore, it is impossible for children to avoid the effects of all these aspects. Moreover, textbooks, especially those of arts, most obviously reflect a nation's ideas. Take Japan and China for example, Japan's brutal aggression to China during the World War II is stubborn fact, however, looking up the history textbook from the two countries, we can see the difference clearly: as the victim, China recorded almost every detail of this tragic history in the textbooks, while, Japan, the invading country, glanced the whole process, or even didn't mention it at all. Why? Evidently, for China, although it is the enormous pain for the whole nation, but the winning ending gives his people much encouragement, so the nation expect people to remember this history and learn something from it. On the contrary, for Japan, fearing to be criticized by his people for his previous inhumane actions, he tries to cover this history of unpardonable crime.

Besides textbook, teacher’s instruction is also one of the most effective means to preserve a nation’s tradition. To illustrate this point, my personal experience is a good example. Since I began to touch English 10 ten years ago, I have attended several English classes instructed by the American teachers. Although the content and emphases of the classes were different, and the teachers were also unlike, there was a same point among all these teachers, that is they always inspirited students to speak out and freely express ideas in the class, however, Chinese students are usually shy, and traditionally, before well prepared, they would not like to speak out hurriedly, and they also felt extremely embarrassed unless they give correct or impressive answers, so in order to avoid the indignity of giving a faulty answer, Chinese student would rather keep silence. But the foreign teachers would not give up unless you say something in the class. From this experience, I understood why American students are much more active and eager than Chinese students to show themselves in activities.

However, we cannot deny through other ways, such as family education, mass media, a culture can also preserve itself, but the contribution of formal education is not neglectable, and it is through all these ways that the diversity of culture has formed and each culture was perpetuated by respective nation.

(这个句子有问题吗?主语People, and , but)(你的开头还是很简洁的。题目是说{a culture} tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears {through formal education}。是主要说culture和 formal education的关系,你的意思是说教育的目的是***,用不用再提提culture?我思路也不清晰了。觉得这种回应应注意题目里面的每一个主要词。

Living in family, some of children's ideas is formed by their family members, and similarly, studying at school, what teachers instruct, what textbooks print, and what activities influence flush into the children's minds everyday, (适当用句号断句)therefore, it is impossible for children to avoid the effects of all these aspects. 两个例子确实比较有力量地支持了你的观点(第一个再斟酌一下,不要太民族情绪化,我也强烈憎恨日本修改历史教科书。用排比句挺过瘾,可是也要注意语法、断句(我的弱项,不妄评了)

However, we cannot deny through other ways, such as family education, mass media, a culture can also preserve itself, but the contribution of formal education is not neglectable, and it is through all these ways that the diversity of culture has formed and each culture was perpetuated by respective nation.
