I: Good afternoon. (Walking forward)
VO: Why do you come to America?
I: (Looking for the fundamental materials folder that includes I20, passport etc. in a hurry) Err, I go to America to study Master's degree.
VO: So which school?
I: Columbia University.
VO: Oh, Columbia! (With an amazing tone)
I: (Nodding and still looking for the fundamental material folder with my nervous hands)
VO: What subject do you study?
I: Electrical Engineering.
VO stopped asking and waited me to get the folder that I have to submit at the very first.Finally I found it and handed it in.
VO: Here we go.
VO: (After looking for a while then spoke in a tiny voice) Have you taken the examination of GRE?
I: Yes. Err, do you want to see the score receipt?
VO: Yes give it to me.
I: (looking for the GRE score receipt for seconds, in a hurry and hand it in)
VO: (felt weird and kept looking for awhile, then he pointed at the verbal score and asked) Give me your admission letter. (I handed it and he looked at the paper a bit carefully) How could you get admitted to Columbia University with such a low score? You got only 300 on the verbal!
I kept silent in upset for tens of seconds.
I: (At last I couldn’t stand for the silence and broke up by saying) I think they admitted me because of my research experience. And I got a wonderful performance on my undergraduate study.
VO felt very incredible and kind of uncomfortable, or seeming more in anger,watching at the score receipt for at least 10 seconds then finally began to say:
VO: What research experience do you have?
I: Err, I have several research experiences. The most significant experience is my undergraduate research program. It’s about digital image processing. And I have brought my undergraduate degree thesis.
Silence for several seconds. Obviously he had no interests on my degree thesis.
I: I have my CV.
VO: Show me the CV.
I handed it.
VO: (Took a glance on the CV and still spoke in a suspicious way) Your English’s very good. But why did you get so low in it (which referred to my GRE)?
I: (in a pain because I didn’t prepare for any question like this) Well, the GRE score is not a English standard for Chinese students. It requires a very large vocabulary and for many Chinese students the English vocabulary is limited. (I was intended to tell him that a excellent oral English does not necessarily due to a high score in GRE verbal, but apparently I didn’t express this clearly, especially when:)
VO: No. (Pointing at the verbal score) I mean why you got such a low verbal. Your English’s good. I’ve seen many excellent students who have very high verbal GRE going to world top universities.
I: (with no idea and wordless) Well….
I felt abandoned because of the following long time of silence. He looked in great hesitation. He stood up and kind of looked for someone, but came back after he stepped a little circle in his hall. Surely the one he’s looking for wasn’t present. He came back and began to type something on his computer, still with his worried face. I sensed something wrong in upset and asked in a fear:
I: Sir, may I explain about my GRE score a little more… thing…?
VO: No, no. It’s OK.
I: Fine.
VO frowned,turned over my CV and the GRE score receipt again and again. Then he stood up again and left his seat for seconds. Then he’s back, and typed something to computer. He returned me everything except my passport, DS160 confirmation page and CV, and said:
VO: Your VISA seems OK, but we have to mail it (or “the result”, I don’t remember) to you in two or three weeks. Is that OK?
I: That’s all right. Thank you.

2-3 weeks  留下了 护照 DS  CV  应该是check   楼主等待吧  有的人会接到电话通知 或email通知  也有直接收到ems之前没有任何通知的

非常感谢楼主的这篇签经!!! 有如此细致的描写, 虽然不是愉快的回忆, 但是有很高的参考价值.

姑且把楼主称为非典型性申请者. 除了寄托成绩, VO其他的基本不问, 也就没有从整体上考察楼主的非移民倾向. 也许, VO在极短的时间限制内只能以这种方式工作.

一句话,   在VO眼里, 楼主低分却被哥大录取, 所以是假的.  这是接下来和VO交流的出发点

任何一个人碰到这种情形, 都很难应付. 事后诸葛地分析, 楼主或许可以说没有参加新东方辅导, 完全是裸考, 而且EE的工作语言不是英语而是数字blablabla; 哥大看中了自己是blablabla方面的奇才, blablabla...... 至于这些解释是否可信, 不仅每个VO不同, 而且同一个VO在不同时间的判断也不同. 为此, 只能一声叹息

其实, GRE的Verbal成绩和英语水平无关, 真希望大家别在那上面努劲儿了.  有空时我写个阅读理解部分的parody. 真正写论文时, 如果有人敢用那种文风, 肯定挂掉.也希望这个帖子别让大家把GRE成绩和签证联系起来
