As a rapidly developed society it is now, there seems to be no use to looking back for understanding of the past. What the past really do help us is not only the experience the ancient people have but also the significant influence on the current society. According to these things, I can hardly be compromised with the opinion that looking back of the past guides little to the present even though today id so new and complex.
There is no clear comparison between the past and the present, which fails to illustrate how new and how complex today society is. One thing you need to take into account is that the past may be much newer and more complex than today. During ancient times, people living in caves know little about the outside world. Without carefulness, they may easily lose their lives. Comparing that times with today, our highly developed people are much familiar with the outside world even the world outside the atmosphere. What’s more, there are classes conflicts ever since the human being exists. When in 16th century in European countries, it is allowed for the upper classes to kill a person without any reasons. Could not be more conscious the people of that time need to be away from being killed? Thus looking back of the past really constructs us to learn how to live in the present, using lots of the living experience the old gained.
Even though today is much newer and more complex than the past, the little guidance, the past to the present, sounds like a little bit absolute. Viewing the back can help us to live better. Learning the mystery of Maya may give us a new way of thinking, absorbing the results of the two World War may hinder the warmongers to break the present peace, investigating the past records may provide more information for the scientists on nature disasters, astronomy and so on. As one of the greatest scientists once said that we were standing on the shoulder of the giants, learning the past sometimes not only saves the time of doing some researches but also offers us a shortcut to the purpose. Based on these, not little guidance but a huge impact the past is on the present life.
Under some circumstances, the understanding of the past does have little influence on the present. The past is not all suitable to the present, since the time is changing and the world is not that world any more. With the technology developed, some diseases can be treated much easier than the past, which will be little guidance to the present. With the internet being popular, the former way of reading a book can be transformed into a new way such like reading e-books by using computers. With globle village becoming smaller and smaller, the travel to another part of the world will be much more convinent than ever and more comfortable by the way.
In sum, although the world updated frequently, the understanding of the past really guide us live in the present despite some of the past experience left away by the time. |
