69. "Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development"
I strongly agree with the assertion that government should place fewer restrictions on science research and development, which are critical to the progress of society and human beings as a whole .My points of view toward this contention are listed as follows.
As we review history, we can see how profoundly science has fashioned our lives. In agriculture, with the introduction of mechanization, and various technologies to promote the production of produce, the burdens of the struggle for survival were lessened. In industry, with Industry Evolution and technology innovations, such as steam engine and assembly line manufacturing, workers are freed from much burdensome labor. Besides, tele-communication tools such as the mobile phone, fax and Internet, which have increasingly replaced written records, have become the major means of communication. It is the Internet that we can make our works more effective and convenient by surfing Internet and getting the latest information as well as taking part in on-line chatting room. Therefore, without the development and research in science, our society cannot be on current stage.
It is known to all that all disciplines are interrelated.
The natural science should pay attention to studying more social sciences and similarly it is of great importance for the social sciences to emphasize the consequence of natural science. Only by absorbing the merits of each side, can they make original breakthrough. For instance, in the 17th century, Newton found the law of refraction which let people understood the nature of light forming, and then it inspired the start of Impressionism in art. Moreover, all subjects in natural science or social science are interrelated as well. For instance, without the knowledge of mathematics, chemists cannot make any advancement in chemistry and physicists cannot launch the satellites into the universe, let alone that we now enjoy the convenience and comfort of communication and live TV.
If government put too much restriction on scientific research and development, then there would be no progress in those fields and our society would be still. Some may argue that at least some fields should be restricted by government, not the all. As discussed above, however, all science, they are interrelated and are indispensible for each other's development and creativity. The government should encourage scientists to create more knowledge actively and give more freedom to all science, instead of restricting them.
In sum, all sciences are collaborative and interrelated, which are the original sources to promote the quality of our lives and push the history to move forward. Therefore, there should be fewer restrictions on scientific research and development from government. |
