Anyone can make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction- in other words, to make things as simple as possible.

The speaker asserts that making things simplify requires real courage and effort and anyone can make things bigger and more complex .It has merit from a normative standpoint, and I agree insofar as we will have a better understanding of something when it becomes simple. However, the assertion is indefensible. I do not think that anyone can make things bigger and more complex. otherwise，Only pursue that making anything simplify might defeat its own purposes in the long term.

True, the speaker’s assertion that making things simple is not easy for people is quiet compelling. As the world around us is a complex one, in order to make it easily accepted by us, we have to make great effort. Furthermore, the society we are living in is also full of conflict, in order for us to live peacefully, we have to make things simple, and this requires courage. From the first transistor to the first integrated circuit, from the first RAM to the windows operation system, no one can deny this is an exhausting process and needs great effort.

Beyond this concession, however, I disagree with the statement because it seems to recommend that anyone can make things bigger and complex. In many cases, it is hard to make a thing complex, especially in science. To illustrate this point clearly, here’s two examples that is very persuasive. The astronomy is a sound example. From the Hubble to the Diamond Light Source (DLS), millions of dollars are heaped, and thousands of talents put life efforts into it. Then turn eyes to the life science, like other prevailing theories, the DNA theory was constantly tested against evidence, and refined, and more evidence collected, and the theories tested again. Scientist’s test and argument may persist for decades. All the endeavors in the scientific community just want to answer a simple question asked by Socrates 2400 years ago, that is, “who we are; where were we from; where shall we go”. Therefore, making things complex also need real effort and courage.


Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we should better consider advantages and disadvantages of making anything as simple as possible. Such as the development of technique, is a double-edged sword. On one hand, with technology innovations like the inventions of steam engine which intrigues Industrial Revolution, people have been emancipated from burdensome work. On the other hand, which has also brought about many problems in human society, especially those relating to the environment. The water we drink is no longer safe .The air we breathe is laden with the pollutants. The ozone layer that provided a natural protection again fiendish ultraviolet rays is depleting .Deforestation and strip mining is making vast areas of land barren. The balance of our ecosystem is greatly disturbed. A large number of organisms have become extinct and several more are on the verge of extinction, and if proper measures are not adopted human beings might be one of them. As a result, attitude towards this question that whether we should make a thing as simple as possible, people may be weight up both prospective benefits and potential risks before giving a conclusion. Yet the over emphasized making things simple that will inevitably run the risk of making thing worse off rather than bringing benefits.

People varying from personalities as well as backgrounds tend to look at the issue from diversified perspectives. When it comes to me, in sum, I concede that many things become simple will make us have a better understanding of this thing. Nonetheless, to some extent, the speaker's claim overrates the importance of making things as simple as possible. In the final analysis, the optimal approach, in my view, is a balanced one that making things simple and complex.
