25."Anyonecan make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courageis to move in the opposite direction—in other words, to make things as simpleas possible."
According to this statement, the speaker asserts that thesimplification requires the real effort and courage rather than thecomplication. Even though the human have the natural tendencies to make thingsbigger and more complex, I still cannot agree with the speaker's assertionbecause to some extent the people solve the problem for the sake of simplifyingthe complicated problems.
To begin with, by way of the scientific development, theproducers of modern device stress incredible effort and courage on package asmuch functions as possible in their product to meet the increasing requirementsof customers, particularly the high-tech devices. The evolution of the CPU isthe apt example to illustrate this point. In the last several years, the Intel, the biggest CPU manufactories, lay extraordinary investment and effort indoubling the core processors to accelerate the speed of their customer’scomputers. Meanwhile, a number of entrepreneurs and engineers take painstakingto challenge the limitation of the established design patterns, and then bringthe technologies and application to a new level. All of these progresses doesrequire the effort and encourage.
Notwithstanding the fact that the advanced device producershave made the great effort and courage on complicating their products, the goalof making things bigger or more complex actually is the opposite direction ---simplifying our life and daily work. After all, the faster computer we use, theshorter time we need to wait for the results. Meanwhile, the more functions onedevice can implement, the less things we have to carry for tourism. the smartmobile phone aptly demonstrate these statements, when we are traveling to theinterest areas, we can use cell phone to take pictures with the amusing background, and then share these photos on “facebook”. Nowadays we can do all these stepson our cell phone, instead of camera, laptop and so on. Thus, the effort andcourage we emphasize on complication finally contribute to simple and ease ourburdens.
Finally, the other compelling reason why I believe the simplifyingthings requires real effort and courage has to do with the fact that thesimplified things eventually contribute to the progress of human civilization. Letus take the First industrial Revolution as an example to illustrate this point. As we know this industrial revolution not only dramatically lift the agriculture productivity but alsoprovoke the institutional changes brought by the end of feudalismin western courtiers, which inevitably arise the malcontent, or even outrage ofthe contemporary power and land owners. The other milestone of social changes alsoinevitably experienced the outrage of the authorities whose power and interest were
offend by these movements. Therefore, thehistories of human civilization actually are the process of simplifying the waywe live, the process definitely require true brave and intelligent effort.
In conclusion, although the modern device producerscontributed their great effort and courage on enrich their product, theseaccomplishment finally transfer to make our life and work simpler and easier. Meanwhile, the entire progress of human civilization truly reflect to the steps of ussimplifying the world, and these steps require the extraordinary effort andtrue brave. |
