I disagree with the statement that newspapers and magazines are the best ways to learn about a foreign country.
In the past, if we want to have knowledgeof a foreign country, newspapers and magazines may be only ways. They cansupple lots of information about that country through word and picture, such as pictures of views, descriptions of local customs and nativecultures, and so on. However, with the development of science and technology,we can have access to an abundance of information through a variety ofdifferent ways, and among them there are some more effective ways.
Television is very common in every family nowadays, which is a relatively effective method. We can receive different kinds ofprograms about foreign countries on television, including recommends oftravel, food introduction, and language studying. Compared to newspapersand magazines, we can not only learn about foreign country through readingpassages, we can also know about foreign country by watching videos andpictures, which are more lively than reading materials.
Surfing the internet is another effectiveway to learn about foreign country. We can nearly get all information throughinternet, from the policy of the country to native cultures. We can even talkto a foreigner through MSN, which is a direct and effective way, and also it ismore accurate. Besides, internet is more flexible than television, for we cansurf the internet at any time while television programs are broadcasted atcertain time. And we can also watch TV programs through internet.
Finally, I think the most effective way tolearn about foreign country is learning just at that country. With thedevelopment of transportations, we can reach anywhere we would like to go in ashort time. So it is feasible to travel to that country to learn about it. Wecan admire the views with our own eyes, listen to the local songs with our ownears, taste the food with our own tongues, and talk to native people. In aword, travelling to the foreign country is actually the best way to learn aboutforeign country, and it is more effective than newspapers and magazines. |
