What will you do? Will you finish the report or just let it go? I assume it varies from people to people. So Whether luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals depends on individual’s will and personality.

   We can’t make a general conclusion that modern convenience make current generation less strong and independent. History of technology development is a time course of how human life become more and more convenient. We get food in supermarkets nearby not in forest hunting. We can reach anyone by phone in few seconds not by running horses in few months. We can be self taught in internet almost everything not have to stand in the sun to wait for the teacher to wake up from his nap as described in Chinese traditional tale. Life is a million times more convenient than what it was a thousand years ago, but it’s no reason to say we are less strong and independent than our ancestors. Hawkins, one of the greatest mind in 21st century best illustrate how conveniences of contemporary society help to build a strong, independent individual not the otherwise. So in this way, we are loosing our independence of travel not because of cars but ourselves.

But for those who put too much attention on material or those whose will is too weak to bear boredom and loneliness on the way to be independent and strong , luxury is an easy alternative, like those teenagers who indulge themselves in party chasing after the fascinating but transient fun.

  To sum up, convenience and luxuries is just inevitable consequence of social and technological development. Extreme convenience as the contemporary society boasts, the society still breed many great people with strong will and independence despite the fact people may feel little confined and uncomfortable without the unnoticeable embedded expedience. Luxuries is a double facet sword. For those with ambition, it helps fulfill the expectation and reach the goal but for those who lack courage facing real life, it is like heroin to ruin one’s will and independence.
