Issue17“There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws.”
The discussion of the issue that people in a society should obey just law and disobey unjust law has come into vogue in recent years. In my opinion , I disagree with the speaker in some obvious reasons.
First of all, the laws can’t be simply categorized two kinds: the unjust items compared to the just ones. It’s unfair for the law-makers who just can’t predict the direction of the development of the future. As we know, the definition of the unjust keeps changing in last decade. An obvious case to this point is that we were used to design and produce the atom bomb in order to defend our country and promote our international status, however, recently many developing countries are trying to develop nuclear weapons is viewed as the unjust action which might create a huge threat to the international security. The case shows different sense of value brings different results. Despite the example is somewhat improper, we could know the so-called unjust would not keep constant.
Secondly, the laws are enacted by the governing class who utilize it to uphold their rule, thus they just represents the view of the governing class, impossibly meeting everyone’s need. Nevertheless, the laws could always give expression to most of the people basically, especially in the socialism countries, the laws nearly protect every aspects of civilians’ rights, those people should make great efforts to abide by national rules while enjoying their rights and interests.
Admittedly, there should be some differences between the proper and improper laws. The former ones meet the needs of social development, and promote people’s life and work order while the improper ones can’t help the improvement of the productive capability, what’s worse, some loopholes even threats the security of people’s economic and safety. The reasons of forming loopholes in law are manifold, such as the lagging and abstractness of the law standardization etc, that’s the place where need our change. The best way to deal with the problem is that we should perfect the process of the legislation, for instance we could add the hearing and give more democracy to common people, helping legislator make full use of the information to enact the more just laws. The above is the right attitude towards the system of laws rather than disobeying these laws even being opposed to them.
To draw the conclusion, law plays an important role in modern society which has a strong influence on all the parts of the modern life, so we should take a global picture of that. |
