In this letter the author
recommends if new exceptional professors' spouses are given the chances of employment, tjey will be more likely to accept the offers of Piece University, and therefore the investment in the effort will absolutely be well spent .To support this recommendation the author points out that Bronston College adopted similiar measure that make professors are happier living is small towns. For several reason, these evidences privide scant support for the author’s recommendation.
To begin with, one problem with the argument is that the author hasty to reach a conclusion that offering employment to the spouse will attract the most gifting teachers and researchers to Pierce Uinversity barely on the studies conducted by Bronston College. The author fails to consider possible fatctors which might bring out this result. Perhaps the studies conducted by Bronston College is not very scientific, lead to incorrect results. Or perhaps perfessors are happier living in small towns in Bronston College is due to wage increase, rather than the spouses’ job. Besides, maybe the weather of the small town where Bronston College located is quiet and comfort while other town where Piece University located is noisy and uncomfort. Since th author has not accounted for these possiblilities, this recommendation cannot be taken seriously.
Additionally, the author fails to consider the felling of the older crew. It is entirely possible that the new crew, only a small part of the staff, can have no impact on the overall situation. Or even, older employees control the development direction
of the school in key positions. If so, the author cannot convice me that the injoin of the new teachers and researchers will improve the morale of Piece University’s entire staff.
Finally, even I concede that the new teachers and researchers can improve the morale. If investing money in this effort be well spent? Does not excule the possibility the morale will increase more than this that using this investment to purchase more equipment. Therefore, the author should modify this recommendation so that it could target the purpose.
To sum up, this recommendation is not well supported. To convice me that attracting new teachers and researchers is valueable and useful for improving the morale by providing jobs for their spouses, the author should provide more scientific evidence to show that the validity of the studies . To better evalute the recommendation, we would also need more information that other factors
may influence their choices of jobs .Moreover, adequate evidence should also be given to show other methods’ expenditure to improve the morale.
