TOPIC: ISSUE16 - "Although many people think that the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life are entirely harmless, in fact, they actually prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals."

From the speaker's claim that present luxuries and conveniences play a adverse role in the growth of human beings. This seems logical to some extent in particular aspects, however, pale from another point of view.

The great benefits of luxuries and conveniences brought by modern technology are obvious, and truly make people become more intelligent and powerful. The actual meanings of luxuries and conveniences are that of easier to handle problems, less time spent to meet the deadline, and more ,better ways to satisfy our needs. While the criteria of judging individual's capacity depend on,
in most situations, how quickly they respond to emergencies in life. Nevertheless , given such sophisticated , luxuries contemporary life we are enjoying, it turns people into a relative peaceful state that drastically reduce people's passion and encourage ,and as a result people become week and dependent in the final.

The influence of modern facilities upon people's mental and physiological state is manifest compared to any past times. The prosperous contemporary life let us acquire large amount of information much more convenient and feasible. For this matter, enterprise can make accurate investment , especially in economic crisis, to avoid big loss; for common resident, this will efficiently and effectively enable people escape from natural disasters, like earthquake, volcano eruption and so forth. Plus, people can fully explore and use resources on earth under this circumstances. Echo-sounding apparatus ,now in general use in ships, opened the mysterious door of the deep ocean and thus made mining activities at the sea bottom possible. Additionally, inventions like the automobile and computer have freed time to engage in other meaningful activities or to spend time with family. The automobile, for instance, serves to enhance independence in traffic and residence. Vehicles make it possible for people to travel to downtown areas without suffering the stuffiness of public transportation system, and to pursue employment far from their communities. Considering all this, it is quite reasonable to claim that current luxuries and conveniences of life state benefit human beings become more individual independent and strong.

There are some factors that really harmful, and have long-term side effect for society’s development and individual’s growth.
People now excessively rely on internet is a sound case for this view, which will not merely reduce the common contact with friends in reality and will make people gradually isolated from the world. Even worse some pornographic cultures are in flood in the internet, teenagers, if lack proper guidance, are entirely possible to lose themselves. Those dimming aspects, however, are not the results caused directly by luxuries life. It is people who cannot use it justifiably and consequently have to suffer the bad effects in the end. Upon such an occasion, modern luxuries is harmful for those guys let alone make them independent and strong.

To sum up, luxuries and conveniences of today’s life do exist some negative points that might bring some undesirable effects, as discussed above, for people’s growth but the positive influences are more obvious, and the unwelcome results mostly produced by people’s abuse of those conveniences. Thus, it is urgent for people to reach a balance during the process of enjoying the prospects of life bring to us and I agree with the speaker’s claim.
