ISSUE 130"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society.Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."



The statment above actually consist of twoclaims. First, the destiny of society is determined by the how children aresocialized today. Second, we have not yet learned how to raise children who canhelping bring about a better society.
As far as I am concerned, I disagree with both of the two claims completely.

The first claim that the destiny of societyhinges on how children are socialized is an over-statement at best.Socialization, described on Wikipedia, is a term used by sociologists, socialpsychologists, anthropologists, politicians and educationalists to refer to theprocess of inheriting norms, customs and ideologies. It may provide theindividual with the skills and habits necessary for participation within theirown society, plays a important role in helping children grow up to be good citizens and effective leaders and bringabout a better siciety. Children who will contribute to our future societyshould not only learn English, history, and math, but be socialized which meansshould learn to negotiate, cooperate, and assert themselves in a respectmanners. Most President of the United States who have contributed to their timeall were prominent social-activists.

It is cannot be denied that children is thehope of our society and how children are socialized is only an indeed important factor to determine the orientation of our society, but not the crucial one,and there are many other factors such as culture, knowledge, and technology.Without Walt Disney and his Mickey Mouse, We cannot enjoy our happy time in Disneyland Park and with "Toy Story"s. Without John von Neumann andhis "Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer", I may can not write by keyboard before screen now. Without Wright brother and their first successful human flight on December 17, 1903, we cannot have a dinner withBarack Obama in The White House and have a cup of coffer with Ban Ki-moon in Manhattern one hour later. Thus, to my point ofview, the ability of socialization, creation and imagination together withculture, knowledge, and technology are the key points of cultivating ourchildren, therefore determing the destiny of our society.

Although there are some problems in currenteducation system, in my observation, rapid development and progress of oursociety in recent quarter-century has illustrated that people have learn toraise their children to better our society. Our parents who were once childrencultivated by our grandparents have contributed to our society and brought usmore effective traffic system, medical serverces and technology such ascomputer and the internet, actually have great influence on us. In traditionalviewpoint of education, academic degrees means ability of person. Bill gatesdropped out of Harvard University, but he set up a Microsoftware company andbrought our society informational revolution, and his experience haveencouraged so many children who devote theirselves to information industry madeour life more convenient and exciting, and also made our society more better.

In sum, socialization plays an importantrole in determining the destiny of our society, but not the most important one. Culture, knowledge and technology are also are as well as socializationimportant for cultivating our children. Our steadily "better" societyhas indicated that once children have brought about a better society and couldraise their children who can bring a more better society in the future.
