[my outline is way too long. I am wondering if I spent 10 more minutes on this, it would become an issue instead]
[in the lab. didn't check the grammar and spellings]
sorry for ls= = .......
I agree that the history study has been focused on famous individuals and when average people thinking about a history event, names of famous few are what would pop up in their heads, but not those of average individuals who may also contribute or even play a significant and indispensable role in that event. However, I disagree with the statement which claims that there are too much emphasis have been placed on individuals. Instead, I think the attentions that great person in history received is well-deserved and justified when considering their contributions.
Moreover, the extensive research and study on genius or great man satisfies the curiosity of averages people have towards them and their stories also provide role models for the younger generation, so it is not historian's fault that attention s have always been placed on few, but instead, due to the requirement of the society. [ things I want to explain in this paragraph is : If one thing is done simply because people want to do, then there is no such thing as too much emphasis. actually, i don't think I know enough about the great man I am interested in.]
then I would move to second part of the statement and discuss two points.
First,
Groups of people who have made great contributions to the world is not forget by us, but remembered as a whole. And sometimes, they are remembered along with great man or few famous individuals who they once followed and worked together with.
second,
Even sometimes, people indeed forget contributions of normal citizens once made to the society, it is unfair to claim that the most significant events and treads of history were made possible solely by average people. For a significant event to happen, both are required : A talented leader who know how to lead, how to gather tiny strength from each and every normal individuals, make them work together and achieve the goal that unattainable by one and average individuals who believe in their leader, who willing to follow and contribute anonymously, work diligently despite the fact that their names probably will not be remembered as their leaders.
In sum, the emphasis currently put on individuals in history study is appropriate and justifiable, not only because the indispensable role they play in corresponding historical events, but also because history study focused on individuals satisfied the needs general public, whose curiosity waits to be satisfied and who needs a role model to follow. As for who make the most significant event possible, famous few and general public is interdependent, history will be changed or significant different from today when either component is missing. |
