I agree with the assertion that teachers working outside the academic and practice in the relevant professional work can improve the quality of instruction. However, teachers must avoid the completely working outside the academic.

Undoubtedly, the certainly working in the society can help teachers to make a better plan for students. Recent years, many graduates can not find a suitable job for their profession, and this year there are about a third graduates can't find a job in China. In my observation, the globalization crisis is a main reason, while, the other main reason is that many universities ignore what the society real need and they just teaching something that may usually many years ago. For example, in my university, what we taught about the hardware is already outdate ten years ago. So if we go to the workplace, we must learn new things and trained to be good workers, and this will waste many resource and time of the company, while, in such a fulfilled competition society time is money, the managers don't like to employ the graduates.
So if teachers working relevant to the course they teach in society will know which talents need now or will need in the future. And in this way, they can teach depend on the real need and direct students to learn in the right way.

Moreover, teachers working outside can help them to understand the course they teach clearer. In school, many teachers research in the labs and most of the researches are theoretic researches, if they don't know the developments of technologies in society, their researches may useless in the practice. We all know that the aim of research is practice. So the practice can direct our teaching and researches, and then to find the flaws of the research or teaching and than improve them correct. For example, teachers may know how to control a robot in theory, while in the practice we can find that it is different with the theory. Yet the flaws we find in practice will enrich our theory can give us a direction for further research.

However, we must remember that the main duty of teachers is to teach student not only learn knowledge but also how to be a quality citizen. In China, many professors are busy in working outside and get more money and then ignore the cultivation of their students or even treat their students as employees. All this go against the obligation of teachers. In my view they can work and to help their teaching or help the students to learn more useful knowledge in various ways. And to be a good teacher, he must take in heart that how to teach their students and how to help them. And in this way we can cultivate quality citizens for society and for future development.

In sum, I agree that the teachers can working outside to improve the quality of instruction at school, while, they can't put the cart before the horse. Students are the future of our society.
