No.130 How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

The speaker's claim actually can be divided into two parts.I agree with the first part of the speaker's assertion that "the destiny of the society hinges upon how childre are socialized."However,I tend to disagree with the second part of the speaker's assertion that "we do not understand how to educate our children to be helpful to the progress of society."In my observation,we should pay more attention on the other aspects of education rather than only on children's socialization.

To begin with,socialization plays the vital role in the development of individuals as members of society.And it is necessary for educators to enhance the socialization of children so that their words and deeds would be acceptable in their society.Nowadays,team work has been emphasized dramatically in almost every field.No matter how much talent you have got or how much knowledge you have owned,one must cooperate with his or her companions to deal with the increasingly complex tasks.It is impossible for anyone who want to make any important contributions to today's society in an isolated condition.Consider the example of the Japan Pavilion of World Expo 2010 in Shanghai,its theme is "connect",and almost all the high-tech products which have been displayed in the pavilion are used to make people connect with each others more convenient and comfortable.Furthermore,if children are not socialized sufficiently,they can not meet the demand of society when grow up,and thus,they are not able to make great contributions to the well-being of society.

Meanwhile,the speaker claim that "we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."In this assertion,the speaker implies that we do not know how to educate our children to enhance their socialization skills.As this assertion is poorly supported by empirical evidence,I tend to disagree with it.Education in this era has put more emphasis on enhancing children's socialization skills.For example,students' homework is more often a study groups' task rather than a individual's one.This favorable change is aimed at cultivating students' leadership,friendship and communication skills.Moreover,the fact that high school associations are blooming and popular in recent years can best prove this.Admittedly,the advent of internet and other high-tech products might impede children's socialization by providing a poor enviroment for them to communicate with companions and participate in social activities.Nevertheless,it is through the overwhelming media that children can learn about the prevalent culture,custom and phenomenon of our society even when they are at home.

However,is socialization the only factor influencing the individual who will contribute to a better society?Obviously,my answer is not.In my opinion,the destiny of society depends on other factors,such as creativity and social institution.The chinese former chairman Jiang once said:"creativity is the soul for the progress of a nationality."It is doubtless that the primary reason for which our society has been developed so rapidly is creativity,whether today or in the future.So many high-tech products have permanently changed the way of our daily life in transportation,communication,and even in study or living and so on.Nevertheless,the development of technology must be limited.It is said that the development of thechology is necessery to be controlled by moral principles,that is to say the social institution.Otherwise it would be a great threat to the society.Consider the example of human clone technology,it serves well to illustrate this.

In conclusion,I am inclined to support the idea that our society will be in great trouble if children are not socialized well.However,we should not ignore the significance of other aspects of education during the development of children.
