I agree with the evolution theory that nature picks the fittest to survive. But the speaker made the assertion that human are not responsible for extinction of species without considering human's unwelcomed interference with other species' lives and living conditions. And at the moment when the earth is badly hurt, to save endangered species is to ourselves.

I concede that in ancient time when human had not yet envolved and when human led their lives on their bare hands ,some species were extinct of natural process like dinosaurs.
However, human are definitely responsible for hardship of lives of other species since the Industrialized Revolution. It's unarguable that the conveniences and luxuries of modernized society we enjoy are at great cost of nature resource and irreversible damage to environment. Statistic shows that total count of natural disasters happened during last 100 years is 50 times larger than before. Consequently, the scarcity of nature resource and damaged environment pushes lives of some species in corner. It's recently reported that hundreds of dead bodies of penguins were found on the seashore of Australia. Results of autopsy indicated that those penguins died of hunger because lowing temperature of sea water resulted from global warming makes the sea inhabitable for marine creatures which the penguins prey on.

Damaged as the earth is, best way to heal it is to sustain balance of eco-system thus maintain the complexity of creature on the earth. The more complicated the eco-system is, the more capable the system is to heal itself. Various kinds of species depends each other to survival. The vision that human is the only species left on the earth is the same as the one of the end of the time.
To put it in another way, human can never make too much efforts and sacrifice too much in saving endangered species, because we are saving ourselves.

Hot as the issue of saving endangered species are discussed around the world, efforts made by the government are not that impressive. Developed countries put the issue aside using economic crises as excuse and developing countries focus totally on economic growth and try to sit at the same table with great powers. Animal protection is just a pronouncement occasionally made in conference. What’s worse, the idea of preserving endangered animals hasn't occurred to general people yet, fur is still the symbol of wealth and fashion.

To sum up, in recent years since industrialized revolution, animals get extinct from human interference more than natural process. we haven't done enough work saving endangered animals not to mention extraordinary efforts.
