121-Protection of endangered species
"At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no
justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species." Recent decades has seen that a wealth of species extinct from the earth only existing in human's memories and pictures[这句话的主语是什么?不太通顺]. The author fixes the blame on natural factors instead of human's behaviours and claims that there's no need in spending money to [on]protect the endangered ones. By[on] contrast, I take
the opposite side that we need to pay for our unwarranted behaviours and thrive to maintain biodiversity.
It is a fact that some species disappear from the earth due to natural powers. As is represented in Darwin's theory, with beings' constant and occasional mutations, the nature selects beings that make rapid and accurate adjustments to environmental changes, while leaves out ones vulnerable to it,
which is called the natural selection. Examples can be found no further than dinosaurs, which, billions of years ago, died of food shortage and dramatical
climatic changes complete with changes in air's contents and sharp decline in temperature.
Nevertheless, an increasing number of statistics clarify that our unconsidered active behaviours in recent decades have multiplied the speed of beings'
extinction. E. O. Wilson, a biologist from Harvard University points out that if current rates of human destruction of the biosphere continue, one-half of all species of life on earth will be extinct in 100 years. In order to satisfy our greedy, wide areas of forests are destroyed and habitats for
plenty of animals are ruined. We hunt for and kill them for entertainment and unreasonable requirements like fur in ignorance of consequences this may bring. What's worse, various pollutions affect species' living seriously and some even lead to weird mutation which hardly occurs before. For instance, the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has led to death of plumage of birds and marine mammals, largely decreasing their population.
Local food chains are seriously damaged and ecosystem's balance is broken. As is estimated that it will still take decades to eliminate the bad effects.
As a result, we are obliged to make efforts to save endangered creatures and sustain the balance of nature for the reason that only by biodiversity,
can creatures survive the fluctuation of temperature and other alterations. Otherwise, our live will grow vulnerability under exposure to mutable
environment. So far we have not found any place appropriate like the earth to be home to all living beings, we ought to cherish and protect what we share now. In addition, we are living in a closely connected system--biosphere ,where none of us can live on without accompany of other creatures. Hence our fates are linked to each other. For our future, we are advised so save them. It is of great necessity to build natural reserves, plant tress against deforestation, and prohibit illegal hunting. Above all, what is the most vital is to wake up awareness of protection of biovariety. Certainly, fund and human resources we spend on protection won't be so much as to hinder our own development.
In conclusion, in the past human's behaviours have caused numerous beautiful livings's extinction and broken the balance. In the future
we will attempt to contribute to protecting biodiversity and sustaining natural balance which is worthy and imperative. To save them is to save ourselves.
这篇很不错,亮点在对进化论的阐述和墨西哥湾石油问题的例子,看起来很舒服很形象。
但是不知道为啥开头段和后面有点文风和逻辑上都有些脱节,可能属于慢热吧。很不错了,继续加油。~ |
