TOPIC: ISSUE112 - "Some educational systems emphasize the development of students' capacity for reasoning and logical thinking, but students would benefit more from an education that also taught them to explore their own emotions."

It is fact that educational system emphasize on teaching reasoning and logical thinking, which is one of the responsibilities of these educational systems. While I admit that capacity of reasoning and logical thinking is important, they should not ingore students' emotion upbringing, which is actually, if not more, equally important.

First we should concede that capacity of reasoning and logical thinking make us realize the object law of the society as a whole, which is most significant in studying science, such as physics, mathematics, etc. When we get down to the syllabus of the university students who study science, we can find that nearly all the courses are cultivating students' reasoning and logical thinking, and even those who study social science, management or economics for example, never lack course practice their logical thinking and reasoning. This situation more or less indicates that critic thinking and reasoning is of great importance for establish a healthy system of thinking, and that is helpful for students' further study or work. It is not doubt that some educational system emphasize on cultivating students' ability of capacity for reasoning and logical thinking.

However, if these educational system, especially those universities whose task is developing a person ready for society, solely teach students how to think logically or make a reasonable reasoning and oversee the enlightenment of exploring their own emotion, are they realistically making a machine? We have emotions and emotions differentiate us from machines, which may be superior to us in reasoning and logical thinking. What the society as a whole will be with people who are not shocked by the mystery of Mona Lisa; who cannot feel the spirit aroused by Michelangelo’s sculpture David
; who are deadpan hearing the disaster in Haiti? It is not only the mission of the educational systems but also the task of the whole society to cultivate students with exploring their own emotions, to make them a living with sympathy, love, and courage rather than making another machine in the production line.


As a educational system, it is unwise to place emphasis on either developing students' capacity for reasoning and logical thinking or emotional upbringing. Keep a balance of them is helpful. What the society need is not a machine with high working efficiency, but a Einstein playing piano. In that case, the educational systems should first have a closer look at the syllabus and maintain the courses of each part. For a student who study science, courses leading to enjoy the beauty of art or well understand the correlation of human can offer them a better live in the society; for a student who study humanity, a course help to develop a logical system of thinking helps to bring a new prospective of understand the world, combination of which may help understand the world better. Moreover, not only the educational systems, but also the students should make a balance study of logical thinking and emotional exploring even offered a syllabus emphasize on either side, and this sense of self-developing helps become an all-around person.

Sum up, logical thinking together with reasoning and emotional exploring offer different habit of thinking and ways of observe the world, which are both importance to students. In addition, combination of them will not only cultivate an all-sided human but also feed back to create a better society for the future.

思路清晰,观点鲜明。
但是第三节对于emotion exploration作用的论述略显凌乱与绝对,个人觉得即使没有学校教育大部分人对于灾难还是会有怜悯心的,而学校的情感教育应指向更深层次。

看了你的段落提纲。学校不应该造机器般教学的论点很好。之前的评论是想说,文中的事例似乎更多在说emotion的基本作用,而基本作用不一定非要通过学校教育才能习得。而对于“学校引导”这一部分略显单薄~~可以再深入的~~
