TOPIC: ISSUE183 - "As we acquire more knowledge, things do not become more comprehensible, but more complex and more mysterious."

The speaker asserts that more knowledge do not serve to help us make things more understandable, but rather make it more complex and more mysterious. In my view, although the speaker's assertion seems to be reasonable when it comes to some very limited aspects of human life, I still hold an opposite view against the speaker's assertion.
As human life is limited and therefore it is impossible for us to master every fields of knowledge well, we are required to know and mater some specific and detailed knowledge well in order to take the most advantage of these knowledge rather than learning others in a waste of our valuable time. In this respect, the speaker is on the correct philosophical side of this issue, for the more knowledge we have, the less we master and control well. That's why we need experts and specialists of all fields rather than someone who knows a variety of knowledge to make contribution to our society. Consider, for example, some research suggests that in a man's life of about 100 years includes the time of sleeping and eating everyday, he can only master the knowledge of merely one fields of subject
which account for only 5 percent of that knowledge. In other words, if we spend more time on some other subjects, we are less likely to master each branch of knowledge profoundly and efficiently. Therefore, when it comes to the use of some specific knowledge, we would get more complex and more mysterious because we cannot point out properly which knowledge could be effective in solving specific problems.
However, if we could absorb more knowledge under the circumstance that we indeed master it well instead of just know about it, more knowledge would be useful when it comes to solving practical problems. In our common sense, we can conclude that some additional knowledge or tips will always be helpful in some certain occasions. Consider, for example, if we got lost in a forest during a hike, some specific knowledge might serve to save our lives if we had learned that before, such as, recognize the direction by the north star, finding water by some indicating plants, set up a fire by drilling some dry tree branches, and for forth. Besides, more knowledge could also provide us some other efficient and effective ways in solving specific problems. Some economist today use physical models to describe the dynamic system of economic activities; artists use algebra knowledge to help them constitute the construction of their paintings; sportsman use physical knowledge to help them recover quickly and healthily after training. All the examples above are just some very limited aspects of the utilitarian of more different knowledge, and if we can imagine, almost everything could be done by other means based on other knowledge and thoughts.
In sum, although it is the very fact that as we can not mater all kinds of knowledge well and it would distract our ability to study one field knowledge if we study to much of them and knows it superficially, I still holds my point that more knowledge would be useful under the premise that we master them well instead of just knows bout them narrowly. Moreover, more knowledge could serve to provide us more means and methods to solving pressing problems, and also by more knowledge, we humans get more progress in human advances no matter in economy, arts and other branches of social or scientific fields.
