这是我的第一篇issue,主要还是参考了提纲,想请教一下关于开头和结尾的写法。谢谢各位!!!
170.”The surest indicator of a great nation is not the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists, but the general welfare of all its people.”
I concede that general welfare is a correct indicator of a great nation. It contains material and spiritual aspects, such as public health and safety, security against military invasion, individual autonomy and freedom, cultural richness, and a high standard of living.Yet the speaker fails to provide a clear litmus test for measuring that welfare. Meanwhile, these achievements are related to its rulers, artists, scientists and soldiers closely.
The concepts of leadership of the rulers are important to the prosperity of the nation. For example, Roosevelt, who was the 26th president of USA, has been considered one of the most creative leaders in the world. During the period of his presidency, he has conducted a very impressive campaign that has laid the foundation for the prosperity of America. It was the most developing period in the American history that the USA has been the most developed country in the world. However, a bad leader can also lead a nation to the edge of poverty from somehow developed. Iraq is a good example, its ruler Saddam Hussein, who was addicted to compete for resources and take battles without considering the life of its people.
Art is also a good symbol of the great development of a nation. Only a society that has solved the problem of physical needs of its people can it develop a flourishing culture. Artistic achievements are also needed to make a nation a better place for humans overall. For example, the piano music of Mozart has moved so many people and abstracted them to learn. Sometimes music can inspire someone who is frustrated to be energetic.
With the development of science, we can be more efficient in our work and life, many scientific achievements serve to enhance a nation,s general welfare. For example, advances in the health science have enhanced our physical well-being, comfort, and life span; advances in technology have enabled us to travel to more places, communicate with more people from different walks of life, and learn more about the world much more effectively; advances in physics and engineering not only make our buildings safer, but also enable us to travel with greater safety and speed to more distant places. If it were not for the invention of Newton,s three fundamental laws, people might still have no idea about the principle of the moving objects, and also impossible to introduce the motor into people,s life. The efforts of Edison propel the human society into the electronic age and enable today,s individuals to enjoy all sorts of conveniences of the electronic applications. Pasteur, the founder of modern microbiology, disclosed the general principle of pathogeny and antibody, which significantly contribute to human health.
Apart from its rulers, artists or scientists, the soldiers of a nation are also very important for the welfare of its entire people. In this peaceful world, it is also necessary to have a strong army to protect its people from being attacked. Without a strong army, it is hard for a country to work. A strong army plays a vital role in resisting the military invasion and it is a basic guarantee for a peaceful life and work environment. America has the strongest army in the world as a result that no countries dared to debate with it, which provides a good environment for the development of the American society. By contrast, a nation without a strong army, just like Iraq, it is so hard for its people to have a stable life. There are so much dangers that its people sometimes cannot survive as they wished.
As far as I am concerned, the surest indicator of a great nation can not only be the general welfare of its people, but also the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists. Soldiers are also a great indicator of a great nation. |
