题目:ARGUMENT162 - A recent study shows that people living on the continent of North America suffer 9 times more chronic fatigue and 31 times more chronic depression than do people living on the continent of Asia. Interestingly, Asians, on average, eat 20 grams of soy per day, whereas North Americans eat virtually none. It turns out that soy contains phytochemicals called isoflavones, which have been found to possess disease-preventing properties. Thus, North Americans should consider eating soy on a regular basis as a way of preventing fatigue and depression.

In this argument, the arguer advocates that citizens of North America are supposed to eating soy everyday in order to prevent fatigue and depression. A careful examination of this argument shows how groundless this proposal is.

First of all, the arguer commits a fallacy of hasty generlization. For no information of living and working customs of both easterners and westerners is provided, we can not exclude the possibility that the true reason of the higher rate in fatigue and depression for Americans is because they lead busier and more nervous lives. What's more, as we can learn little of the study itself from this argument, whether the procedure of the study is scientific or not is still questionable, what makes the result of the research, inaccurate and untrustworthy.

To go further, the clues provided in this argument are not adequate to testify the judgement that it is soy but not any other kind of food which plays the decisive role in preventing fatigue and depression in Asians' diet. As it is a mission impossible for people living on the continent of Asia to have only soy but nothing to make a living, a quite rational hypothesis is that there are some other kinds of food which are also an indispensible portion in Asians' menu that have a marvelous effect in curing depression and fatigue. In addition, considering the different eating habits in varied places on the earth, the Americans may be even more upset when being forced to having soy on a regular basis as it might be a hard task for them to get familiar with the taste of soy.

At last, the subjective intention makes the arguer overlook some potential possibilities which can aslo serve as a key to explain the better resistance for Asians towards fatigue and depression. As the arguer fails to offer any message to tell us the exact disease from which isoflavones can prevent, there might be some other phytochemicals contained by soy which play the significant role in hindering fatigue and depression.

As it stands, this argument is not well reasoned. To make it logically acceptable, the arguer is responsible for providing sufficient evidence details to validate the claim that it is undoubtedly the eating habit of soy which make Asians have a lower rate of fatigue and depression, and isoflavones are the only and exact phytochemicals in this effort.
