whether or not should young chirldren study art and music ?

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (ages five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.
A pianist once said that music and also other forms of art were an indispensable soul mate of mankind with whose accompaniment one would never be lonely. Undoubtedly ,music and art means a lot to us .They offer us comfort and enjoyment , help us to find our inner peace and also give us a lift to become a better person.however , should music and art become part of compulsory education aimed at young children with the age ranging from  five to ten? Of course , people's opinions vary greatly on this issue. But for me , i totally agree with such a proposal to enlighten young children to study art and music by adding them to their curriculum .
Above all, compared to those applicable courses ,such as math ,science ,history and language ,which we need to study to make a living ,music and art is of greater meaning to one's whole life .It benefits us not only in a practical way but in a more profoundly spiritual way .For example , my younger sister ,Tanxiao who has been playing piano for more than 8 years, has a quick mind thanks to her frequent practise which requires two compatible hands .She is always the first one to work out math problems in her class. More importantly ,music has opened up a new world to her . When she is upset ,she plays the piano, it will cheer her up. When she is anxious , her piano will soothe her nerves .Her piano speaks for her. Now she is planning to go to a conservatory school for further and professional study . I believe piano has given her the happiness of life.
Also ,art and music provide students with enjoyment . A piece of good music can relieve us from pressure of study and give us a moment to rest ,therefore benefiting the mental health of young children. A masterpiece can feast our eyes .Every time i appreciated the Monalisa , i felt obsessed with her fascinating smile and could not move my eyes from her although i didn't understand art . So adding music and art to the curriculum enables students to obtain more fun from classes.
Admittedly ,such courses might become additional pressure to students .Considering the existing pressure added by teachers , such classes may end up with low attendance rate.Besides,some may worry young children are too young to understand those arts. Therefore masterpieces may mean nothing to them and finally those classes become a waste of time .
However, compared to the profound benefits ,such a proposal by all means should be carried out ,for it may not only change their values and life and help them to find their happiness but also make the courses less stressful .All in all , i absolutely agree with the statement .
