The speaker asserts thateducation should be specifically designed according to individual talents andneeds of students so that it can reach the most effective level. I concedeinsofar that
more and more attentionneeds to be paid to students' different interests with the development of theeducation system. However, taking account of the limited resource, such as theamount of teachers and schools, funds and so on, specifically designededucation is not realistic and may has some negative effects.
Admittedly, education ought to aim at exploring andarousing students' talent and potentiality, which requires particular attentionto individual desires. Putting students' different innate skills aside, it cannot be denied that students in modern society have more and easier access to agreat deal of information in any field which plays momentous role in theprocess of forming interests and ambition. So it seems that the idealest formis that every single student has a special plan instead of receiving exactlythe same education.
Nevertheless, we can not ignore a fact that thenumber of students is too large, which leads to a terrible result. Incomparison with students, available teachers and institutions for education areundoubtedly insufficient. In order to meet every student's needs, the stuff ofthe education system have to work overtime or hire a large number of peoplethat are not professional to help finish the task. We can easily anticipatethat the quality of the designs is hard to be ensured, which will does harm tostudent's personal development.
Besides, it is a tough problem that how and on whatbasis each student's needs should be determined. One option is to design a planaccording to the student's desires. But we can not assure that the student'sown choices are really proper for his development because the factors leadingto these choices may be unreasonable. Furthermore, the plans should be changedfrequently with the variation of students' minds, which may results in chaos ineducation.
Another alternative is to set a plan on the basisof students' talents, which, unfortunately, will bring about more problems. Iwould like to list two of them to illustrate my opinion. First, it is muchharder to determine one's talent than his interests. For example, how can achild who is musically gifted ever see these gifts come to fruition withoutaccess to a instrument? Second, in this way, students may be unconsciouslydivided into two factions: talented ones and others who are ordinary. Itcarries some negative implications.
Finally, the current education has its own meritthough it does limit the development of some special students sometimes.Through the prevailing education, students gain basic knowledge of differentfields that are useful no matter what their career are, such as math, languageskills and so on. Another point which must be cleared is education includes twoaspects: teaching and learning. The achievement of education lays a great parton personal efforts. Students are taught how to make choices but still need tomake choices themselves.
To sum up, considering the current situation ofeducation and the detriment may be brought by the form of education suggestedin the assertion, it is hard to say whether the specifically designed educationis realistic and ideal. Yet we must pay more attention to students' individualinterests and needs in order to make the education more effective. |
