TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
Will the children's socialization determine the destiny of society? The speaker seems to agree with that. However, in my opinion, even though the children's socialization will make great influence on the destiny of society, the society is based on a large amount of factors such us environment, education, technology, and policies, etc. On the other hand, I do not consent to the claimer's second assertion that the society is not ready to have the children make sense of the better way to bring about a better society.
To begin with, as is known, no matter in which period, the children tend to be the main force in ten or twenty years later. There is no doubt that the children's socialization is such an important factor to the society that it may lead to the mainstream of the future to some extent. In early 1980s, the president Deng Xiaoping, one of the main leaders of the PRC, said that the every event should be made sense by individuals through their childhood. Also, as the chairman Mao told to the Chinese students in Soviet Union, "The world is yours as well as ours, but in the last analysis, it is yours. You young people, full of vigor and vitality, are in the bloom of life, lice the sun at eight or nine in the morning. Our hope is placed on you. The world belongs to you. China’s future belongs to you."
However, many other factors such us environment, education, technology, and policies would not be negative as they may also effect the direction of the world. As we known, the society has been experiencing a blooming period which had never taken place in the history since Watt invented the steam engine. For China, the country has enjoyed a rapid economic improvement in the past three decades during which the government insists to the policy of reform and opening up. So we should not conclude that the children's socialization would determine the destiny of the society out of the above factors.
Differing from the speaker's first assertion just some flaws, I do not agree with the claimers' second conclusion absolutely. In fact, the adults are trying to teach the children to make sense of their responsibility that they should make contribution to the society so that they would tend to fulfill their lives no matter in history or nowadays. To realize the aim, our ancestors and the governments build various schools, colleges, and universities to educate the young during each of their growth period.
In sum, we would conclude that how children are socialized may be a key factor to the destiny of the society but not the only one. Additionally, we should firmly believe that each generation will fulfill their responsibility to make the society better. |
