题目:ISSUE235 - "Most people are taught that loyalty is a virtue. But loyalty-whether to one's friends, to one's school or place of employment, or to any institution-is all too often a destructive rather than a positive force."
In recent years, the topic of the advantages and disadvantages of loyalty is so hot that people varying from personalities as well as backgrounds tend to observe this same issue from diversified perspectives. A widely accepted viewpoint claims that the potential risks caused by the trait of loyalty always overshadow the expected benefits it can bring us. Although I'm not pleased with the feeling of being a critic, I would rather to stand on the opposite of this point of view and reckon that our earth would become a hell without loyalty.
First of all, I have to concede that placing too much emphasis on loyalty would not serve as an appropriate action. Everyone has his own weakness no matter his position, experiences or social status. If we are loyal to one guy thoroughly, each sentence from his mouth may be looked as Holy Bible in our eyes. However, supposing that this guy doesn’t feel good one day thereby some indispensible details are overlooked and a wrong decision is made by him. Unfortunately this false command would be enforced without any hesitation as no one would have enough courage to challenge his god.
Nevertheless, the stake of disloyalty may be even higher to afford than loyalty at discretion. Disloyalty will cause distrust, the direct reason of thousands of tragedies which are happening in this world everyday. One true story of my best friend, Tim, may serve as a suitable example to strengthen my standpoint. Tim enjoyed a happy life until his mother began to suspect that her husband had some dirty relationship with a young girl-his private secretary. Tim's father is angry about such unwarranted doubt, and refused to go back home at night as revenge. Finally this couple divorced and Tim was hurt deeply for he had never owned an entire family. Besides Tim, numerous innocent kids are also suffering from the wars between their closest relatives; however the majority of the war's origins are groundless suspicions.
At last, loyalty is necessary not only in family lives, but also in many other fields such as industry and society. A company would not let a disloyal employee to be its important official in order to prevent the loss of its kernel technologies; it is not a wise choice to tell your personal secrets to a so-called friend who is interested in spreading gossips. As loyalty is becoming a precious quality, we are supposed to ask ourselves whether we are pure-hearted to others before complaining for the countless lies around us.
To sum up, admittedly loyalty may be troublesome for us sometimes, it is still one of the inevitable characters for every contemporary individual in most occasions. A person who doesn't have the word "loyalty" in his dictionary is often more harmful than one who is too loyal for his friends, school, institution or place of employment.
