Abraham Lincoln described that the government should be “of the people, by the people, for the people”. This also stands for our society. When our children are going to live in the society which will be dominated by their own, their problems today may just help them live in the future.

In the view of most adults, the children nowadays do have many problems compared to their parents in their youth. As the increase in the number of one-child family, especially in China, children seem to be less skilled in communicating and cooperating with their teenagers, for the reason that the fact that they are the only child in family and possess all the resource for child makes them to self-centered. On the other hand, the development of modern technology, especially in information and electric products, gives our children an alternative to having joy with playmates in neighbor-hood or school yard. They can easily enjoy happiness by playing video games or surfing on Internet. Further more, their emotion with their relatives becomes slight, which is important in forming a big family in the eyes of their parents.

These features, may become big obstacles when entering society of today which need people focus more on the relations within each other. If we define socialization like this, which means the adaptation to society and the ability to make a living in it, that this is the case -- our children are not well socialized. But perhaps we should notice that we are using the standards of today's society to evaluate our children. Society does changes greatly in the process of time and history. If a citizen from the medieval came to today's world, he may regard nearly everyone of us as a pagan -- "what? you guys believe that the earth in not the center of the universe? It is awesome to let women enjoy so much freedom and power!" As we regard the people lived in the old days as not well civilized, will people from the future consider us like that, too?

Due to the fact that the society is formed by people live in it, today' parents should not use the ruler of present days to gauge the socialization of children today. After all, they are to adapt to the society they are going to create in the following days. Compared to the past, are today's technologies need less human intervention and more automatic? This trend will probably continue in the future we can predict. The development of science and technology will only make our life more convenient, which means, the skill of operating new computers and machines may become more important in make a living. What's more, the perfection of regulations and laws in the society and companies will reduce the importance of the relations persons and the dependence on the attachment of relatives. On this level, it seems that we are indeed raise our next generation to be well socialized.

Where dose the trend of technology comes from? From us! During the period before our children assume control and we lose our domination, is there anything else from raising our children that we can do? We adults should make more efforts on our own to bring about a better society.
We must notice that there are many problems in the modern world, wars, terrorism, global warming and so on. After we retired from our leading role, what we left for our children should be a better society for them to live.

Worrying about the future and next generation is what parents most likely to do. But before doing so, perhaps we need to concern more about that whether we should use our own rulers to measure our children. Other than worrying about them, how to do our own best directly to our society may be more important and urgent.
