钱花在研究上是好是坏，并不取决于whether the results of that research are unclear or not，而是取决于这个research的初衷original objectives.

如果一个研究的初衷是好的，为的是某一学科的进步和人类生活的福祉，那么这样的研究就是值得投资的。{medical: a clinical test of a new medicine; its potential side effects; its merits and demerits;| ethical: organ transplantation; the impact of a near-relation marriage; cloning }
相反，如果研究初衷涉及反人类antihuman反社会antisocial种族灭绝genocide，那么这样的研究必须被阻止。{nuclear  test; chemical/biochemical weapons; cult worship}
如果按照这样的方式来选择投资，那么即使一个有益社会的研究，它的结果unclear也是可以接受的。因为科学的进程总是不完善的，在探索的过程中总会有doubts and contrasting opinions。{in those early days of a new nation,  a number of research are required, some results of which could be very controversial,….}；而科学的进步就是在对unclear consequence的re-meditation中实现的；
实际上，在真正投资去invest a research之前，any consequence about it is unpredictable. No one, thus, could tell whether they could be controversial or plausible or otherwise. 单纯去考虑研究的争议性，这样只会导致一个结果——人们在研究之前对它可能的结果犹豫不决，耽误了研究，使一些有价值的结论&happy accidents无法被及时发现。{the discovery of penicillin青霉素的发现}
CC: 一个研究需要我们关注的不仅仅是它的结果，还应该包括它所代表的社会道义，它对科学的价值等等，与其纠结于(entangled in)未知的结果，不如专注于可知的科学价值。
