Argument  147
The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.

"Although the sales of Whirlwind
video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike
graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive
advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."





In this argument the author comes to the conclusion that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months. To justify the claim, the author points out that the sales of video-game trend is about to be reversed by a survey.What's more,the author also cites that by introducing some lifelike games and advertising extensively at people 10
to 25 years old will add the scales which is unsound and fallacious.

   First of all,the trend of video-game's sales which is likely to be reserved may not be the same with the whirlwind's.It is possible that the sales in the whole nation are increasing potentially while the sale of whirlwind video game is declining for the improper strategy of the company. That is to say,the well trend in this survey can not sum up the increasing of whirlwind video-game's sale. The survey must be showed to be reliable before I can accept any conclusion the author reaches based upon it.

  Secondly,adding the sales is not viable just by introducing some lifelike games. The circs that lifelike
graphics is the most attractive factor for game players is unauthentic for the lark of exact statistic and evidence.What's more,even if lifelike games are prevalent around players,there are many other factors will impact the game sale.For instance,the most up-to-date computers for playing lifelike games are so seldom that only a few people can enjoy the vivid graphics.As the result of this,the sale will not increase by introducing some lifelike video games. Moreover,the high expend of lifelike video games will also have a bad influence in sales.

  Thirdly,we can not draw our conclusion by an extensive
advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old.Admittedly the people aged between 10 to 25 are most likely to play video games.However, their purchasing powers are restricted as most of them are students and have no pocketbook at all.They can not afford the cost of buying a video game.Thereby,advertising extensively at people 10 to 25 may not have an effective impact of sale.

  In sum, the conclusion reached in this argument is invalid and misleading.To make it logically acceptable, the arguer would have to substantiate that the trend of sales of video game are the same as whirlwind's sale trend and that introducing vivid game can bring further sale.Moreover,I would suspend my judgment about the credibility of this argument until the author can provide more information about advertising at person 10 to 25 will add the whirlwind video game sale.
