The lecture talked about the influence of human activities such as building houses and developing agricultural land on birds. It is said that the reading fail to proove its point convincingly and somewhat inaccurate campared to the truth. The professor contradict the reading's thesis by three points.

First, the increase of population and settlement did not drive all the birds away. On the contrast, that expansion provide birds with more places to live. For instance, as the professor mentioned, there're pigeons on the street and even hawks can be seen in the city. So it is not true that the number of birds will decline due to the increase of our homed and office buildings.

Second, the area for agricultural use is not expanding in the United States. The professor indicated that as the crops and other agricultural products can meet the needs of citizens, the agricultural areas are actually declining now. What the reading says about the occupation of wilderness areas by humanbeings for agriculture is incorrct. Hence that will not harm the living environment of birds.

Third, it is true that some pesticides used in agricultural production are poisonous to birds, because it is deadly to the harmful insects and pests. But we have developed the pesticides and it contained less harmful poisons now. Besides. The new technique has allowed us to produce some new crops which is unattractive to pests themselves. That is called pest-resistance crops, which means the pesticides will be unnecessary soon. Thus nothing will poison birds to death anymore. So the prediction of the living condition of birds in the reading will not happen.

题目是most advertisements make products seem much better than they really are, agree or not

I totally agree the statement that most advertisements make products seem way much worthy than they actually are. That is like a routine among the commercial companies. They want to make the products more attractive to consumers, which is reasonable.

First, the appearence of the products in the advertisements is always fascinating. You may just open the TV at present and see a piece of delicious biscuit just baked with abundant creem in it. And a bunch of children just throw themselves to it and the one who get it put it into mouth and jumped happily as if he has just reached the top of the world. That kind of advertisements can got me every time I watched it when I'm still a kid. When my parents buy me the biscuits to get rid of me making noise, I opened the package and always found the biscuit smaller and with less cream compared to that on the TV. Such things happen a lot like a choclate bar contains less nuts that it is advertised, or a watch is not that shining compared to that on the TV.

Second, the quality of one product is something most advertisements will make changes. Women will be familia with the tricks on the products claimed to help losing weight. A picture of a very slim girl is frequntly used by advertisers. She will say something like, "You wanna be as beautiful as me?" or "I used to be fat girl myself, but with this product..." And it is not difficult to know whether this product can turn a fat girl into a slim one. It proove that the effection is either quite small or cannot be seen without a long time. It's not the only occasion. I had heard a joke about such kind of products. It says a bold man bought a shampoo that can make his hair keep growing as the advertisements claimed. It turned out that it did work, but unfortunately, his hair grow on his hands but not his head.

Third, when people believe what the advertisements say about a kind of products and plus the "fair" price given by the company, they may rush to the market and get them immediately. Then they will find they can enjoy the low price only if they
buy some other related products together, or they pay to be a member of the company at first. We learn the companies rarely let consumers pay less with no strings attached from this kind of advertisements.

Maybe it is neccessary to make an product more attractive to encourage people to purchase. But it seems like their obligation is to boast the products by any possible ways and to ignore the rights of consumers.

The lecture talked about how the new rules made in 1990 improve the condition of archaeologists with sound arguments against the reading’s ideas. The professor reasoned her viewpoint by contradicting the three points in the reading material.

First, the new rule says before the start of construction by any company, an examination by archaeologists will be performed to confirm the historical meaning and value of that site. If it is an achaeological valuable site, the company have to negotiate with the experts team and figure out a plan to preserve it. This will give rise to the reverse of what the reading says about the lost precious artifacts.

Second, all the costs of researching activities should be paid by the consturction company in stead of the government. That is a solution of the changing priorities of the government. Archaeologists will gain a new resource of financial support to perfoming their research and examinations on archaeology. The short in funding is not true.

Third, new rules also created many new careers in the archaeological field, since all the work and rules above are supposed to be realized by archaeologists, such as examing the old buildings and drawing the plan to keep those valuable constructures and writing all the reports, etc. The number of archaeologists in Britain is actually on a record high in the history.

tpo16 Ind W "do you agree the best way to travel is with a group led by a tour guide"
I love travelling so muvh, and according to my experience, I'm affraid following the tour guide is not always a to enjoy the trip. It's like a social phenomonon that if most people regard something as good, an individual's morality will be shaked. A travel isn't that serious but we will certainly be influenced if we just follow others in the journey and lose some of the meaning of the trip. I'll proove that by three reasons.

First, a tour guide maybe helpful in a totally strange place, but is it necessary? In fact, the freedom of going to wherever you want to weighs more than a tour guide. We love travelling for the reason that it takes us away from the noisy cities and we can clear our mind faced with the beautiful scenery. How can we realize that if we don't be alone in the most time? In addiion, the troubles in a trip can be the very wonderful parts. Those troubles may occure to us when we try to handle this travel alone. For example, maybe the tour guide will take you to ride the cable cars to the top of the mountain. But what if you don't know that way? You will probably climb the mountain on foot, which is the experience others will not have.

Second, if a tour guide sounds well, travelling with a group of people will not be attractive to me. The reasons are simple. It will take more time to organize a group of people than only one. I always find myself wasting time on the bus just to waite for all of the group members. With more people, the unexpected problems pop out inevitablly. I remember one of my horrible trip with a tourists group. I had to wait for the whole morning untill all of them got up and ready for setting out. Some of them left the camera in the hotel, others got noisy children to soothe. When we finally get to the beach, there is already no sunrise to watch.

Third, the travel agency always have contracts with a shopping mall or restaurant in the place we visit. That is the most annoying routine known by all of us. The tour guide often lead us to the shopping mall or restaurant that they cooperat with, and the profit will be devided into two. So the travel agency and the local commercial are both winners, but we sacrifice our time and money which is originally planned to enjoy the local culture and beautiful nature we don get to see in the city.

Maybe some of us just cares less for the rights as consumers, or don’t mind waiting for some meaningless things in the sightseeing bus at the gate of the hotel. But imagine a trip that will give you a brand new mood and fresh start in your life. That is a wothy travel you will get when you finish the jouney alone.
