235"Most people are taught that loyalty is a virtue. But loyalty—whether to one's friends, to one's school or place of employment, or to any institution—is all too often a destructive rather than a positive force.


The speaker claims that loyalty is too often a destructive rather than a positive force. To a broader assertion, I agree with such view which has considered the negative side of loyalty in some fields where loyalty puts sand under the wheels in a long term. Nevertheless, loyalty can also contributes to the progress with a wisdom use considering the practical effect and local conditions.

With rigorous stick to a special loyalty under some circumstance, all those involved risk falling in to a dilemma or impeding a development which has gone far from the original goal. Some law makers and defenders always fight against eliminating the special protective labor legislation maintaining that people must be loyal to such law for the reason that abolishing them amount to destroy the fruit of a century struggle for protection of women workers. Even if a brief examination of history issue and employment show that the fruit of such law has been bitter: they are, in practice, more of a curse than a blessing. All those defenders' views have been based on the stereotypical assumption considering the women's real need and ability. Even if the goal of the law makers who make the sex-defined law is to protect women workers, the loyalty to them only puts emphasis on the original goal of it but blind to the practical effect in the real life. After World-War II, for example, businesses and governments sought to persuade women to vacate the jobs in the factories, thus making room in the workplace for returning veterans. However, they are so loyal to the protect labor laws that women even hurt in such issues. At last, the loyal to one thing must consider the all practice effect in the real life.


On the other hand, creative or critic ideas, which I defined as the opposite norm of loyalty, can sometimes reflect the real mind of a person. Such ideas not only produce the valuable effective especially the ideas come up to
problems when it is applied to the everyday practice, but permit the substitution of new forms for old under certain circumstance. For instance, democracy originated in Greece and was carried from there to Western Europe and America. But they failed to be loyal to the Greece form completely: it passed through several reforming which give rise to the creative or critical idea of different governments. Democratic government differ in form because democracy is in principle dynamic without complete loyal to its original form and therefore responded to local needs.


Admitted that the loyalty has the negative effects on some circumstances, too more emphasis on the critical ideas may hamper the humanity of a employment or any institution. In other words, loyalty sometimes plays a large part in the balance of an institution where every member needs a final goal to fight together. At the business level, employees who are loyal to the company will work hard together and strive to the development of the company as in their minds, company's benefit has connected with their own benefit. At the community level, loyalty gives inspiration to us making efforts to the entire nation and sparks us to involve in the community if loyalty has not developed to patriotic spiritual.


To sum up, loyalty can serve as a crucial catalyst for the achievement of one's school or place of employment, or any institution. Yet, loyalty without any idea to the practical effect or local condition can also destroy the fruit of the issue. After all, given the both side of loyalty, people are forced to strive a balance in how we allocate our attention among the loyalty and critical ideas.
