Do you think that young people should take several different kinds of job before they take a career in a long term?

In today's society, people do make their own career plan. This plan is especially important when it comes to the realm of young people. Some of them prefer taking a long term job at the beginning of their career, while as far as I am concerned, it would be better for young people to try various kinds of jobs before they wish to devote to one for a long period of time.

The most significant reason for my stand is that different experiences of a variety of professions serve to assist us in differentiating whether an occupation is suitable for us. It is common for one to realize that he/she is not fond of his/her first job. Why does this happen? Probably it is hard for a person to figure out what kind of job he likes or is capable of taking before participating one. Furthermore, a study conducted by a magazine, Career, reveals that more than 83% of people who have token 2 or more kinds of job formerly are satisfied with their current one. Therefore, people could find more appropriate jobs for their own through their earlier employment experience.

Even if the young people really know certain suitable professions for themselves, taking different kind of jobs has additional benefits for them.  It is widely acknowledged that different jobs acquire different specialty. We could learn a lot from the job and improve us in various qualities.  A variety of cases can be cited to illustrate this point and my programming mentor is a case in point. Before he decided to be an engineer in a software company, he worked in marketing. In that period of marketing, he developed strong communication skills, which helped him to be preeminent among the engineers and become a project manager in the software company in the later time.  Consequently, different job experience in the earlier time may contribute to a better career in the long term.

Additionally, from the economic perspective, it is advantageous to try different jobs. Since we can build up more skills by taking different jobs, we would become more valuable for the employers and earn higher salary. Take my brother for example. He used to be an interpreter before working in an international company where people have to work with foreigners. The present salary of him is approximately 2000 Yuan higher than it of the same position in a local company.  Hence, we should not miss the opportunity to try different job and develop more skills when we are young.

To sum up, given the analysis mentioned above, it is reasonable for young people to take a variety of jobs before starting their long term career.
