Issue69 "Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development."

With the development of technology, it enhances the standard of life and level of comforty. Moreover, the innovations and advances of technology create the progress of society. On the other side, government places numerous restrictions on scientific research on behalf of government's profit which to some extent hinder the creation of science and technology. Thus, it should be asserted that scientific research and development should obtain few disruption from government.

Scientific research like a two edge sword that it bring benefit to the mankind and take enormous disadvantages which even deteriorate the ecological system as well. As the development of machines, assembly line alleviate people from the burden of physical work, which not only augment the work efficiency, but let people have more time to do what they want to do. Furthermore, the discovery of electricity, phone lines and Internet intertwined people across over the world, boost information transferring, extinguish the distant among different people in different regions with instant communication. However, at the same time, science progress and technology development bring negative effect on environment. Hundred and thousand tons of non-renewable resources(coal, petroleum, natural gas, etc) have been consumed and stretch the resources to the limit. What is worse, large amount of contaminate were emitted to the ecosystem result in greenhouse effect, ozone layer depletion, extinction of various creatures which disrupt the balance of biodiversity and threaten the survival of human beings.

How to resolve the problem is one of the main tasks of government. Government should put neither too few nor too much prohibitions to the scientific research and development. General speaking, science and technology are not born evil. Whether it will bring advantages or disadvantages is determined by the application of humanity. For instance, Nuclear energy could be used as power generation which has higher efficiency than fossil fuels, and it could become atomic bomb that is able to deteriorate the planet we are living.

Moreover, cloning is a breakout in medical science which has great potential in organ transfer. On the contrary, a few scientists use it to clone human, which has huge negative effect to the society. Thus, many governments have put prohibitions to the cloning human research. On the other side, if government place too much restrictions to the technology research, there would not be the prosperous of science today and humankind would not enjoy the comforty resulted from science development.

To sum up, science and technology can provide people with more convenient and comfort but, on the other hand, it also brings with it some serious disasters. Hence, restrictions that the government put on scientific research should be judged according to the different nature of various research projects. Those that would bring benefit to the human and friendly to the ecosystem should be encouraged and government should augment the funds to it, however, those that would damage the environment and ethnics of human society should be prohibited.
