We may usually think that the value of scholars and researchers is depends on the contributions they have made in their region of researching. However, what the most important to scholars and researchers themselves and what we, common people shall concerned with is not the contribution to the society but the pursuit of their individual interests, thought which may be unusual or idiosyncratic.

Admittedly, the contribution is the first thing the people could see to be the best proof to their works and researches. And as the common judgment and standard of the society, judging a person from what he had made and the profit he contribute gradually become the first thing come to people's mind. Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Inc., leads the computer and the music player into a whole new era, not only the function but also the outward appearance being paid attention to. The Mac Air, Mac Pro, Iphone, Ipad, and Ipod has changed the entire society and bring a new both acoustic and visual experience to the world. When we mention Jobs, we could no doubt link him to the Apple and the Ipod and so on which are his contribution to the society. And take a scientist to the instance, Mario Curies, a great scientist who discovered the radium which made great profit to the patient suffered from cancer. We know about her mostly because his discovering as the contribution. It is what the scholars and researchers made that make us know them, the common knowledge made us equal the contribution to the scholars and researchers themselves.

However, thanks to the utilitarian society, the real value of a scholars and researchers are been hidden, and we have held a wrong idea and judgment for a long time. The actual value of them, the scholars and researchers, should never be simply considering their contribution, but their individual interests which they devote their whole lives to. Because of the persistence, they could keep seeking for the truth and discovering the new method which could bring people a better life. And it is the vigor of interests that support them before the results had made contribution. Dr. Stephen Hawking, a physicist who study about the original of the space for dozens years and have got a theory of the big bang which is not really accepted by the society, is still working on his what he interests. I have read an article talk about another physicist who studies the quantum physics. His life is so hard that he could not even paid for his apartment. The quantum physics has no a certain system so that every conclusion he get cannot be judged into useful or useless theory. But why we keep concerning the contribution, why scholars and researchers were accepted only if they have some contributions, and why can't the scholars and researchers be respected only because of their pursuit of their interests? It is the individual interests but not the contribution made the scholars and researchers be successful. It is the individual interests which support them to keep on study.

We, the most common people in the society, had paid too many attentions on what they made then what they interested in. Only care about the contribution can never give us much more than the contribution itself while if we try to learn something about how the scholars and researchers pursue their individual interests and learn the sprite of study from them, we will gain more than the information but the mental power. At that time, however unusual or idiosyncratic the interests are will be not that important to us.

To sum up, the contribution scholars and researchers makes to the society should be concerned with, but that would always be the second one after the individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic they may be, for being their pursuit during their all life long time. Nevertheless, that could also be what we should study and learn from the scholars and researchers.
