50. "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

  

为了改善大学的教学质量，所有的教员都应该被要求花一定时间到学术领域以外去参加和他们所教科目相关的工作。

The author offers a proposal that all the faculty should be asked to spend time working in profession relevant to their research field , in this way the college can gain the promise to improve relevant instruction. I fundamentally agree with the author that it is beneficial for faculties of college to contact with the area outside the academic world .however, in my opinion, they should not spend too much time on this event as professional faculties whose essential duty is teaching.

Without no doubt that a teacher who cannot also instill knowledge from the books to students but also can tell some practical examples from the real world would be welcome among students . admittedly ,the knowledge we got from the books is the very foundation of our study and job. However, time changes while the books is still the same as past. If a professional often participate in some practical activities about his relevant fields then he can unquestionable gain the latest information about the relative subjects. in other word, he have the first materials about the relative subjects which would have a unquestionable significance about the students' future. the professional can alternate his plan about instruction to adjust to the trend of the society ,thus the students may be more easy to get a good job, for the reason that they are instruct based on the need of company or factory.

another benefit about the project is also indispensable，that is many company and factory need the professional suggestions from experts who are familiar with relative areas especially in some inferior places. for example ,china is the largest agriculture country in the world ,yet the agricultural population of the whole country is more than 18 million while in America the amount is 6 million。In another word, a Chinese can care about only 0.12 hectare while an American can manage more than 2 hector. it is the fact that most places in china lacking the very important and developed information about how to escalate the degree of agriculture efficiently and use modern agriculture machines.
if the government organize more activities to send these facilities who is familiar with this knowledge, then the laggard agriculture condition may ameliorate in the future.


However, the essential job of the faculty is instruction other than working outside the academic world. The professors get paid in the college for they have the duty to instruct students, that is more important than participating in outside activities for it is their essential duty. Granted they are likely to do some more practical activities, they will have enough time to accomplish this wish is open to doubt. We know most of the faculty have to engaged in experiments or conferences ,thus we cannot ensure that they have enough time.

in sum, I strong agree with the author that it is necessary for faculty to work outside the academic world , and it will benefit the future of students as well, nonetheless ,we cannot ensure that if the faculty have undue freedom to work outside will good and feasible as well.
