The socialization includes inheriting norms, customs, ideologies and learning life skills for participating within one’s own society. To some extent, it can decide whether children will bring about a better society. However, out-dated moral stander or customs may actually be negative to the improvement of a society. I will illustrate my points below.


First of all, an ideology contains love, justice and freedom could be a guide for children in their future life. Inheriting such an ideology could picture an image of a ideal society in children's mind. After they grow up, they will strive hard to realize that image. For instance, when faced with injustice, say a robbery taken place, one could automatically take action either to help the victim or to call for police. Thus improving the security of a society. What is true is that most of our society concedes the equality of everyone and basic human rights as parts of our ideologies. Nevertheless, even if we are pride of the virtues in our moral standers, there still exist fallacies. Education emphasis too much on memorizing knowledge rather than fostering logical thinking, creative problem solving and making it clear what is right or wrong. Thus we keep hearing about teenager violence, campus shooting cases, drug abuse among students, etc. To this point, the author is kind of right since what matters is the method that we take to socialize our children.


However, it is also necessary to notice what we teach our descents. Since even if our children perfectly inherit all the customs and ideologies, if the customs or ideologies themselves contradict to the wellbeing of the whole societies then it is unreasonable to predict a better future. In some cultures, moral standers are out-dated and they may place restrictions on the development of societies. One example is that in nineteenth-century Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, women were treated as property and can be killed when disobey their husbands' orders. Since children were growing under the influence of this notion. A century later that perspective had changed little in the same city. Taking life from a woman may still be treated as a defense of men's honor. Under this circumstance, socialization means keep on passing the out-dated or even inhuman moral standers from generation to generation. Thus no matter what methods they take, a better society is still far from reach.


Summing up, socialization can, to some extent determine the development of societies, but should always with popper ways and passing down ideologies that benefit the society as a whole.
