The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people。



  Observation of the appearance and behavior of the people can,undoubtedly,provides us with sufficient information of the society's ideas,however,in some situations,we will find ourselves in a dilemma to identify the whole society's ideas by the details of people.
  To begin with,as the head of Sociology at my university once said(and i paraphrace):"To identify the society's ideas and values,we have to firstly get to know the people in this society,and to get to know the people,we have to observe the behavior and appearance of the people."This illustrates the point that the observation of  the details about the people can reveal the inner thoughts of them and thus will be conducive to understand the society's ideas.For instance,having considered the people in France,where women always attach tremendous importance to dressing and the make-up and men usually behave in a gentle and romantic way,we can thus arrive at the conclusion that the society's ideas  never fail to be related to art  and the society focuses great emphasis on the beauty and delicate food.On the contray,people in Germany,who devotes themselves to the technology and science,are considered to be cautious and hard-working,accordingly the country has the reputation of advanced industry and marvelous achievements in science.In brief,the way people look,dress,and act  can help us understand their attitudes and interests and then help us identify the society's ideas and values.
  However,can we successfully acquire the accurate information of the people by the analysis of  the superficial aspects such as the way they look,dress,and act?The answer is probably not.Firstly,with the perspctive of people  changed dramatically,people nowadays have an inclination to conceal the inner feeling by dressing formally or acting in a common way.As a result ,observation of the behaviour and appearance will not act as an efficient approach to acquire the people's attitudes and interests.Furthermore,"Time will reveal people's heart."said Confucius,a remarkable ideologist in China. Accurate andusefull information can not be got and,on the contrary,fallacious information will take place ineluctably in observing the appearance and behaviour in such a short time,since sufficient time is acquired to illuminate the inner thoughts and then draw the final conclusion.Last but not the least,while the society is be made up of people and the relationship between people,only a handful of people can not represent the whole society.If you want to tell the whole society's ideas and values,you should take a great many people into consideration,pondering on seas of other factors,not just the behaviour and appearance of people.
  Consequently,in some casual situations,it may be appropriate to identify a person's attitudes and interests in observation of the details and thus tell the society's ideas and values.But we should be more careful when making the conclusion by taking more factors into account,only in this way,can we acquire the most useful and meaningful information.
