TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
There is no doubt that education should pay more attention on interests of students, but due to several aspects, which are hardly to fulfill, it's impossible for education institutions to meet all individuals’ needs.
As it is well known, interests play a crucial role in students' learning, just as Einstein said, the interest is the best teacher. Not only can interests inspire people's curiosity, but also they can be the momentum to study and work with persistence. Without interests, an ocean of theories cannot be established, a mass of facts cannot be found, and a series of artistic work cannot be created. Consider, for instance, due to interests, Freud, the great Austrian psychologist, who was inspired by the great scientific investments made by Goethe, turned his energies to natural science and some challenging social problems, after discarding his childhood dream of learning law. Through the process, he ultimately theorized the Psychoanalysis. What's more, having a strong interest in news, Joseph Pulitzer, an honorable journalist, set up The Pulitzer Prize to respect the media elite and inspire all journalists, after fighting for several decades. The two examples both reveal that interests have the power of leading to huge success. In addition, the social purpose of education is to provide society with talented persons. In light of this, do not pay sufficient attention on the interests of students probably results in covering up potential talents.
Nevertheless, it is almost based on illusion that curriculums specifically designed for individuals, there are three aspects, which are questionable to oppugn the recommendation. In the first place, there exist no adequate sources to fulfill the concept, just like to fetch the moon out of the sea. Without those essential equipment technically, how can schools hire a myriad of instructors to teach lessons, how can schools provide enough classrooms for setting up the curriculums, how can schools guarantee available computers rooms for students’ study outside classes. Actually, in our modern society, schools themselves mostly are nonprofit institutions; thereby it is out of schools' capacity to be ready for all qualifications to cater to students’ needs.
Secondly, another difficulty is making examination and evaluation unified. Because we advocate each individual to focus on their own interests, so literature, art, chemistry, physics and mathematics and so forth all would be the hot disciplines. And the problem come along the concept, upon what based should we make sure that the students who are in music are more talented than the ones who major in physics? In addition, under the circumstances nowadays, enrolled in universities is the most crucial purpose for high school students, however, what are the criteria again to adopt students in the mood of almost distinctive disciplines. In light of this, sufficing every student, to some extent, probably cause some chaos.
Finally, too much attention only on their interests can result in lacking common sense. Suppose those students who just participate in activities according to their interests, with time fleeting, more they achieve from interests, less they may lose in some fundamental knowledge. For example, a student who are enthusiastic with mathematics, only engaged into dealing with sorts of mathematical puzzles; he/she more or less likely discards knowledge of other disciplines such as
history, geography, and so on. Hence, when it comes to communicate with others, they probably would find themselves incompatible with society in the future.
In sum, as the above showed, I stand for author’s opinion insofar as that emphasis of students’ interests and needs. However, I do not advocate specially designed curriculum, is bound up with the practical situation, for the several questionable aspects, which not only are hardly to deal with, but also may contribute to some confusions.
【第二篇】昨晚列好了提纲写的,今天基本就耗在这个修改上了,借鉴了别人习作痕迹很明显,大家有时间就看下了咯。谢谢。不知道有没触犯发帖规则。 |
