政治类道德类的题目是我的软肋，今天一直都不能下笔，看了很多资料才能觉得有一点idea，求拍~

自己已经改过。写作时总忍不住要啰嗦，好好的句子偏偏要写的这里一个定语从句，那里一个限定，不够concise and potent.

The effective and satisfying leadership derives from a synergic effect of a variety of factors, among which the role of morals and ethics is highly controversial – in what aspect and to what extent are morals and ethics in need to facilitate leadership? Through analyzing the basic components of leadership would we realize that morals primarily contributes to the charisma of leaders, but not necessarily to the other two aspects, the expertise of a certain field that one leads, and the ability to work under pressure or even adversity.

The power of morals and ethics can be reflected best in increasing the charisma of a public official. Charisma is a defined as a particularly attractive, motivating, and inspiring image of a leader, crucial in strengthening the confidence of the public in constant progress under certain leadership. To obtain charisma, as we learned from anecdotes of past elections, the candidates employed consultant groups to preen their physical appearance and to fine-tune their communication skills. Although these strategies are effective to some extent, the electorate is not voting for their favorite entertainment star, but a trustworthy and wise future leader. Therefore, conforming to moral and ethical norms would win popularity effectively, as people naturally believe in a good soul. Moreover, having realized that the perfect satisfaction of an administration would be in vain, no matter for whom to vote, the public resorts to self-disciplined, conscious, and decent candidates just to play safe.

However, morals and ethics barely functions in the another fundamental of effective leadership - one’s expertise in the field that he or she is dedicated to. Abundant knowledge and work experience allows a leader to establish a sharp and ambitious vision of success, and the ability to make constant judicious judgments. Without these, even the most charming leader will lose support sooner or later, as the effectiveness of leadership should be gauged against concrete achievements instead of bubbles of popularity, or their previous success in other fields. For instance, the movie star who was elected the governor of California owned many fans and advocates as an honest, energetic, and adorable candidate, longing to sustain and continue improving the economy of the state. Unfortunately, he failed to fulfill his promise and vision eventually. Although his failure could not be attributed to a lack of expertise in economics and politics per se, it is also impossible to eliminate it as a major cause.

The relationship between morals and the third fundamentals of effective leadership - the ability of working under pressure or even adversity – is more complex. When proposing and implementing an idea on behalf of the majority, or of one’s party, politicians confront with disagreement from opponents such as the previously privileged groups and frenetic partisans. While the political attack can be as mild and civil as caustic ridicule and irony, it can also escalate to an exaggeration of the negative effect of a reform, or even use excerpts extracted from a leader’s speech to make false analogy to undermine the legitimacy of his or her ideas. Aligning with the highest moral and ethical standards, such as being honest and telling the truth all the time, one may unconsciously leak the confidential information, or expose one’s naivety and innocence to competitors, probably resulting to a breakdown of leadership eventually.

To conclude, the effects of complying with the highest norms of morals and ethics lies mainly in increasing one’s charisma and attracting advocacy, but be irrelevant, or even negative in terms of accumulating expertise in a particular field, and confronting adversity. Therefore, effective and capable leaders should be able to place morals and ethics in an appropriate position, to have them facilitate their leadership when necessary, while avoiding the side effect they may delivers.
