TOPIC: ARGUMENT6 - The following waswritten as a part of an application for a small business loan by a group ofdevelopers in the city of Monroe.
"A jazz music club in Monroe would bea tremendously profitable enterprise. Currently, the nearest jazz club is 65miles away; thus, our proposed club, the C Note, would have the local marketall to itself. Plus, jazz is extremely popular in Monroe: over 100,000 peopleattended Monroe's jazz festival last summer, several well-known jazz musicianslive in Monroe, and the highest-rated radio program in Monroe is 'JazzNightly,' which airs every weeknight. Finally, a nationwide study indicatesthat the typical jazz fan spends close to $1,000 per year on jazzentertainment. It is clear that the C Note cannot help but make money."

The article above at first shows the opinionthat new club would definitely attracts lots of people for the trafficconvenience as well as the local jazz popularity .Then it hypothesizes the highindividual consume according to a nationwide study after which draws the finalconclusion that the C Note cannot help but make money. However, as far as I'm concerned, there are loopholes which weaken the conclusions.
In my opinion, it may be unwarranted to saythat the C Note would have the local market all to itself. Admittedly, the newclub brings in traffic convenience for local people, it still hard to judgethat all local people will be attracted to it. Perhaps, some people are used tothe old one where they are more familiar with and to enjoy more fun. They maylike the old type and are not happy with the disconnection with old friendcircle. Furthermore, different people should have different taste for jazzmusic club. It may hard for them to get into enjoyable with the new type.
What's more, it may be hasty to tell thatjazz is extremely popular in Monroe.Could it be the free food or groupnetworking which attracted so many people to join the jazz festival? May thereason that so many people attended jazz festival be the local honor orsupporting? It still may be ungrounded to say the local famous jazz musicianwill prove the jazz popularity. Perhaps they have a positive jazz fond impacton local people .However it may need more insightful investigation. Anotherloophole is that in somehow, the high frequency of jazz radio program can'tdefinitely prove the jazz popularity. Local people may feel boring about thejazz music due to it.
Last but not least, even if we admit thenew jazz club will accurately attract a lot of local people, it still hard todraw the conclusion that it makes money for the high individual consume on jazzwhich is average $1,000. It may arise suspect toward the scientificity of the study.Could the result be definitely right and accurate? Could the typical consumenumber substitutes the local number?
As a result, it is doubtful that the new clubwill attract lots of local people and make a good profit.
