独立：topic:broad knowledge, specialize in one certain field, which is better?

Nowadays, with the rapid development of society and technology, more and more people are capable to receive all sorts of education based on their own pursuit. While at the same time, a topic, broad knowledge or specialize in one specific subject, which is better has raised a heated discussion. Of course, views vary from person to person. As far as i am concerned, though i am convinced that both the two are indispensable, I prefer broad knowledge and the times has entitled it different meaning.

Commonly, we define grasping broad knowledge as knowing a lot without deeply understand it while specific knowledge as master certain field without a wide horizon. Frankly to say, we will out of date if we are consistent with that opinion. At present, specific knowledge only works as a necessary tool to seek success while it will not satisfy any situation any longer. With the advent of Information times, the world like a great web that everyone in it is intertwined with each other, so is every specific subject. The society is replete of such examples. A lot of IT companies started as his founder's great talent in computer network, we can consider it as specific subject. However, only great skill in a certain field without considering the whole world will undoubtedly end with an excellent programmer. It is a kind of success. But I believe truly success will be that great "programmer" masters an ability to establish a company, even without which he should know how to unite others to help him. That is the great problem that one who one pursue for one specific subject will face. Only with a broad horizon and specializing in one field could one achieve truly success.

To sum up, every time the new era endows itself a new mission so as to facilitate the development of the world. When it comes to broad knowledge or specialization, we should offer it a new definition without hesitation based on which I strongly agree that it is better to have a broad knowledge instead of specialize in one certain field.

Topic: extended family is less important than it was in the past.

In China, almost everyone has an extended family though Chinese government has carried out  one-child policy throughout the whole nation for decades. Nowadays, with the rapid development of society, people seems more deeply involved in its own affairs thus pay little attention to their other family members, so some may raise the conclusion that extended family is less important now than it was in the past.

Frankly to say, there is no denying that extended family in China once played a pivot role in everyone's life. Decades of years ago, extended family member live together so as to be more helpful when they are busy with their farming working. What's more, the big extended family may represent a kind of integrity or difference to others when they face some big inter-family problems such as how to allocate the money or the farmland the whole village owns. Family at that time means power. To be more specific, the bigger the family is, the safer the family member will feel as no one will risk offending the whole big family.

However, though for the time being people becomes more independent, the extended family still plays its indispensible role. For example, the extended family members though no longer live together; they still hold a sense of family. My father often goes to see many of my other extended family though I have never seen some of them before. He told me that we are all belong to a big family and that family will welcome you forever. Of course, the power that maintains the whole family not only relies on a sense of family but also a great labor web that we can seek for help. Two years ago, my older brother would go to the labor market to seek for a good job, but he failed though he was excellent in his field. At that time, he feels totally depressed. However, my uncle happened to know the situation my brother faced and introduced a very proper job though his own friends. As a proverb goes that unity is power. Today I feel it more deeply.

To sum up, I strongly agree that the extended family is not less important now than it was in the past, it in turn plays a more significant role in our daily life.

In the listening materials, the professor holds the opposite views to what is presented in the reading passage and believes the statement in the passage is over exaggerated.

Firstly, though the passage says that the fossils sold to private collectors will make for both scientists and the public less accessible to enjoy the fossils, the professor points that the trade of fossils will attract more attention of the public and private collectors will also display fossils for exhibition.

What's more, the passage thinks scientist will miss out potential important discoveries because of private collectors. While on the contrary, the private collectors will surely go for the fossil experts to estimate the value of the fossil before they bought it and in that way the scientist can surely figure out the hidden values of the fossils.

Finally, the passage states commercial fossil collectors often destroy valuable scientific evidence. Though the professor admits it is true, she thinks that this will lead to more findings of the fossils instead of letting them go completely undiscovered.

To sum up, the professor holds the negative view to the passage.
